1.6 16V camshafts

Any experience out there with degreeing the camshaft with an offset key or vernier gears to shift the torque delivery for better lower rpm performance? To reprofile it is too expensive as it will need welding before a grind due to the rocker setup :x As I understand it I could shift it a few degrees and lower it by maybe 1500rpm

1500RPM? Are you talking about PEAK torque? You might have to re-align your expectations if you're thinking a vernier pulley is going to bring your peak torque in at 1500RPM. Should be able to lower it somewhat, not that far though.

I belive that CJ meant that he could lower the engine revs by 1500rpm for the peak torque .. or to put it another way ... torque peak is now at 3500rpm instead of 5000rpm .. (thats how I read it) I reckon that around 900 rpm would be more realistic though ..

Yeah, I meant that the peak torque would come in 1500 rpm lower. I have been given different degrees to alter it by and the amount of difference it may make. As the zook is a revy peaky kind of engine I thought it might be kinda nice to lower the point where max torque is developed and or to spread the torque band. Not worried about max highway speed just looking for improvements for smooth driveability offroad. Was also looking at some tri-Y headers and exhaust sytem improvements as well as an air filter change.

Anybody know anyone in SYDNEY who can regrind my cam? Prices quoted so far seem a bit steep (around $250)......don't want to send it interstate.
