parts for the warn are avaliable everywhere, i get mine from procomp in narre warren, as far as a rebuild goes, they are a piece of piss, with only a 3 gear reduction drive powering them, if your mechanically minded, it will be easier then changing tyres on your car!
Buy all new seals, i cant stress that enough, i did mine without new seals and i had to do it again as it wouldnt hold oil, what a pita! Tap 2 drain and fill points into your main case and change oil if its been drowned or when you do your engine oil, just to keep it nice and fresh.
if you have the money bolt a 6hp motor onto it, and thanks to krimnl i have a nifty little mod that will save my motors and might save yours 2, tap 2 air line plugs into your motor, and use a small 12V lilo inflator running on a relay off your IN side on the solenoids so it pumps air through the motor, it will keep it cool and you can winch all day with it.
As far as other less practical mods go, you can do almost anything to these winches , ie twin motors (giggle pin or flamin fab) extend drum, air free spool etc etc
but now we are talking mega bucks and comp spec winches
oh and i forgot to mention, give it a fresh coat of paint!

the sky's the limit as far as mod's go on a high mount. just depends on how deep your pockets are.
a 6hp motor will set you back around $550 and a worth while upgrade.
a good place/bloke to ask advice and get parts is s j leslise's (not sure of spelling) in heidelberg west. makes some speacial bits for winch's.
always got spares on shelf.

hammy thats what i use, castrol mtx sae 90 manual gearbox oil, also smitty you probably only had 2 spoons left because generally these winches leak like a prick from the drum seal!bru21 wrote:Really, when i bought mine there was about 2 table spoons of oilhammey wrote:250ml of 90gradeGUte wrote:

Most people seem to use synthetic engine oil ie Mobil 1 or similar. I use the same as what is in my motor so it makes it easy for oil changes, spare oil etc.
93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)
