What to look for when buying a TD42 turboed

Post by rumpig89 »

Gday all.

Looking at getting a gq with TD42 with top mount intercooled Safari turbo. (around 350000)

would like some information on what to look for when inspecting these engines, turbo systems??

Also, things to look for / ways of maybe detecting an overheating problem...

cheers

firstly start it up cold.. should crank over quik.. have somone look for blue smoke..

take it for a run get it warm and boost it alot.. once you get back leave it idle pop the bonnet..

look for oil coming from the waste gate and around the turbo pipes generally if there is its most likely a turbo seal..

while its running take the engine oil cap off if there is smoke coming from it the engine may be low on compression.. say you want it compression tested.
