Hi all
Carrying on from my previous thread entitled "suspension upgrade" I had planned to run GQ shocks in the rear of my rangie (as I thought this was an easy way to get long travel shocks using pin to eye converters) to complement the new 3" lift springs that Shane from Suspensionstuff supplied to me.
Now my problem is the closed length. The GQ Bilstein (model number B46-1267LT is 416mm closed length - so the supplier says). There is no way I am going to fit that in. Even if I modify the top shock mount and remount it above the chassis. I currently have 190mm of bump stop clearance and that is with lowered bumpstops (50mm lower than standard)
Have I got the wrong shock to start with?

Not sure what the lengths are. I am using the standard length GQ shocks. Don't forget to add on your pin to eye adaptor as well in the overall set up. You can use these shocks in the front as well with series 2 front towers.

GQ/GU rear from Bilstein should be F4-B46-1267-HO and something around 395 closed and 655 open. I'm assuming the LT suffix means long travel.86MUD wrote:Hi all

Yes i did. Here is a bad pic i just took . My top rear shock mount. I welded a 50x10 mill plate to the chassis. I used a LRA kicker. I am not sure if you can still buy them. Made my own pin to eye adaptors. Hope it helps

I have a modified mount on the rear diff (std gq style setup) and have made up an extended bracket for the topmount which fits with the body lift (the factory mount goes on but is mounted higher) and have extended bump stops. It all works pretty well and gives more travel than LRA's super extended bilstein kit- dont know how I would go trying to fit in an adaptor in there as well...
I also had some GQ rear koni shocks modded-up by Leslies when they were rebuilt to simply bolt into the disco kit. They worked well too with a 2 inch lift only but havent seen much action and have been sitting in my garage for a while now since I sold my Rangie. They make a nice set with my rebuilt spare 80 series front konis and shocker tower spacers I have just lying around. Probably going to sell them at some point but I might need them as spares???
