Can anyone let me know what the deal with the factory immobiliser
in the XJ Cherokee is?
It has been cutting out speedo, tacho & a/c while driving but then starts
working again when it feels like it.Can it be disconnected by anyone or does it have to go to a Jeep parts & service centre to be done,I heard there's a microchip or something.
ANY HELP?

XJ Immobiliser Help

If you have the computer keys - then I believe they have what is called a SKIM - Sentry Key Imobiliser in the steering column which from a quick google means your computer expects a SKIM (early models don't) then if you removed it, it wouldn't start at all. I'm not sure if you say the whole engine cuts out or not. I assume you have removed the instrument cluster and checked all the connectors are secure. Have you tried the error code thing by turning they key off and on a few times and reading the code on the odometer? Search the web for Jeep diag code and you will find heaps.
Also try this http://www.jeepclub.co.uk/topic.cfm?id=1787 which quotes the FSM for faulty gauges including how to put the dash in "test mode"
Good luck.
