GQ Running Hot..

hi guys my 2.8t gq is running hot.had the radiator cleaned new termostat
new cap new hoses.the clucth on the fan turns freely or should it have alittle resistance? any ideas? or could i have some head problems? :lol: ;)
Life is to short buy a gq now.

had the same prob on a 4.2td. fan may look and feel good. had 3 mechanics tell me it was ok. saw a radiator guy who has a gq and told me to take fan hub off and check for oil leak in front centre if any marks it will fail. mine had a tiny "wet" patch so i got it repacked for $100. it took 2 tubes of the oil in the hub and is no probs now. i had 2 diff rads fitted then got a $800 desert cooler aluminium rad before the fan got fixed. might have got out of it for $100 originally...???
he reckons that you should have the fan hub done every 3 years.
the fans will spin when cool but as the oil inside the hub heats up it expands and the fan and hub will spin at the same speed. if there is not enough oil it wont expand enough to bind the 2 together.

Thanks did notice some oil on hub who did you get to repack yours?
did see a new one on e-bay $169 delivered. :D :)

got mine done at the local radiator shop. dropped it off in the morn picked it up in the arvo. the new one sounds ok though.just make sure it is genuine nissan maybe.
only the first roll hurts, then its a ride..

Welcome to the hot running GQ club! They are renowned for it.

I've always had issues with mine running hot. Had a new viscose hub a few years ago, then last year up in the Flinders Ranges she started to run hot again. Turned out that the valve on the top radiator hose wasn't holding pressure and I was slowing loosing coolant under pressure which meant I had to fill the rad up every 300 kms or so.

I am of the belief that the radiator on the GQ jus isn't big enough. I can watch the temp guage rises to about 3/4 going up long hills and as soon as you get to the top, the temp heads back down to about 1/3 which is where mine sits doing 100 km/h along a flat highway.

I'm pretty sure that the 2.8 has the exact same radiator as the 4.2 aswell.

I'm with Purplebus on this one, i've spent a fortune on it and had about three different mechanics tell me it is fine and working ok.

Where abouts are you purplebus and who was the rad specialist you went to?

on the sunny coast in qld. but got my rad from down melb way aussie desert cooler. mine still gets up around the 100 degree mark on the way to cruiser up the steep hills but it runs on 35s with a trailer with 6x 35s and a heap of spares in it. spoke to a bloke who got a desert cooler made for his full house td42 and he had 2 feeds out and in to the rad and reckons after 4hrs in the soft sand at full noise it was about half temp still. not sure how he plumbed it to the motor though.? i think it is just one of those things with them, bloody shame as the trucks are awesome.
i put an aftermarket rad in mine and it was crap. count the fins across and down in an 5cm areato compare. was told if half the amount of fins it will be half as effective. all the imports have bigger spacing between fins.

Guys don't trust your temp gauge!!

Hook a water temp gauge up to it and see what its REALLY running at.

guys lately after a short drive the coolent overflow bottle bubbles for
a while till she cool down.thanks for the input going to rad shop tomorrow
dose any body know a good one in newcastle? :)
