98 Cheroke Diesel Engine missing a beat

Post by Eddi66 »

I have a 98 Cherokee 2.5 Diesel turbo and every now and again the engine misses. You will drive along and then all of a sudden for a second it it like it turns off and then back on, like missing a beat of coughing. Changed all the filters, had the injectors cleaned. Sometimes when this happens the turbo seems to be not so powerful. At wits end here trying to find what it is. Can anybody help please.

Mostly under 2000 so I thought it was maybe the turbo, but then it happened a few times close to 3000. But it seems that after the cough or missed beat that the turbo does not perform as well as it should - for a little while then things back to normal - might be coincidence though.
