want more flex from 81 4x4 hilux front.

Post by d buzza »

G'day all just chasing a few ideas on how to get more flex out of the frontend of my 81 hilux 4x4, the cheaper the better.I have some ideas but would like more opinions.I do have spare rear leaf packs floating around.

The other question is what power steering box fits the same vehicle as above with the least amount of mods ?

id be going with RUF, the 2 main leafs from a rear pack and then mix n match the next ones down. the thinner the leaf the better.
Get a set of shocks and fab up some kind of mounts.
With doing that id be then lookin into cross over steering,
seeing as i dont think ull ever rego ur truck(correct me if im wrong) u could get a welded double arm from superior, find a 2nd hand upper draglink and 80 series pitman arm and a IFS hilux steering box and ur away.

Or you could drop a few leafs outta a 2"lifted front pack, get some long shocks and again make some kinda shockmounts to suit. Make some extended shackles to get the same height as the rear. By far the cheapest way.
I think any power steering box from a solid axle will fit, correct me if im wrong!

Use all the 6mm leafs out of a rear pack
Open up the keepers so they allow the leafs to seperate
Also if your after good long shocks, track down a set of 2nd hand VN commodore rear shocks
