1HDT CT26

Post by vSAHARAx »

Ok before you all jump up and down about searching, I have! And found some awsome info, especially from "Dow50"

The turbo seals on my ct26, are at the end of there life, its using oil, it runs like a bag of shite when left idling, there is an oil leak on the motor that is comming off the turbo (looks to be near the waste gate actuator. So its time for new seals and bushes.

What i want to know is, i have found this
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TOYOTA-CT26-TURB ... dZViewItem

How compatable is this with the 1hdt??? I understand the supras have a larger turbine, and in saying that will the turbine and housing off my current ct26 bolt up???

What other turbos will bolt straight up to a 1hdt? I know i can highflow my ct26 and fit a T4 compressor wheel but what sort of $$$ are we talking? And what is the difference between dynamic seals and carbon seals for the ct26?

All info and ideas would be great

Turbos that I hav had rebuilt for mates by my cousin (turbo rebuilder) have averaged between $5-700 for complete better then new rebuilds with oversized wheels/ roller bearings and full carbon seal kits etc.

The exhaust flange and manifold mounting flange may be different also which u will hav to check, basically if its mounting flanges and water/oil lines r the same it will be a direct replacement. May be time for an upgrade to a rollerbearing garret, U shud be able to find a direct bolt on garret replacement for the CT26.Cheers

5-700   i was thinking at least on the ++++ side of $1000 Thats good to know! I wouldnt mind a Garret! but know sweet FA about replacement turbos, if someone could give me different types of garrets that would bolt on i may look at going that way

That ebay turbo looks spankers or rebuild so if u can get it for less then $500 ur laughing. Hav a feel and c how many bolts hold ur exhaust flange on and eyeball it to c if it looks similar to the CT26 in the pic as it is most likely the same.

Get quotes on rebuilds as ther is normally a big difference in different buisnesses. Best bet wud be to search a GT4 celica forum and c wat they r doing for garret replacements and watnot. hav a look here for sum Garrett info. http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobyga ... _sheet.htm

That turbo on ebay has the same exhaust casting number as mine (58020) everything looks identical. but in saying that i know there are 2 to 3 different types of CT26's might watch the auction and if its still fairly cheap ill bid on it!

The seals ane bearings between a ct20 and 26 are common from memory. I put new seals and bearings in mine, pretty easy two beers work. I didnt rebalance it ( I used a scribe to mark the compreeor wheel, nut and shaft) from mrmrpty I only spent abotu $100 ... to get it rebalanced professionally is only about another $100.

Mate, when i fitted a turbo to my 1hz, i used a 1hdt exhaust manifold, and a ct26 off a 7mgtze. Apparently this is a slightly bigger compressor housing, but everything still bolted up. same dump manifold pattern, same exhaust manifold pattern etc. Main problem i had was that the housing is designed to be bolted on in a different orientation so the wastegate actuator had to be moved on the housing which was a bit of a headache.

Got it fitted in the end though

Troy, i emailed the ebay user and told him straight that what he had was a hdt turbo...u can see the 58020 on the exhaust housing...he wasnt convinced, so whoever gets it will be pissed off if they expect a group A supra 300kw turbo.
If you ebay.com (america) search CT26, you will find a kit for $100 aus, and a mechanic can change out the seals and bearings making your turbo new again...I have a few turbos at home at the moment, and have just finished a hybrid for my hdft....the only tool you require special is circlip pliers...you must mark the turbine shaft and the compresser wheel when pulling appart then it can go back thesame orientation and no balancing is required...

No not yet Scott...it has plenty of power as you know, running the supra front wheel and housing...and its a big job to swap the turbo...coolant change, manifold removal etc......but the day is getting closer...
Ive been playing with my pump, had to fix a few leaks and also need to find a way to limit pressure at the fuel rod, as more boost reduces fuel after 12 psi....
I want to run 16 or so at the motor and see what the egt's show. Running 14, the max egt i can get is 520....i shouldnt be unhappy with that, but i know theres more potential there.

Go to a turbo specialist and they well sell you a seal kit for around $90. I went to MTQ.
