I want 35s!
Got a NJ Pajero, and i want to know what i need to run 35 inch tyres? How much lift? Will i be able to use standard gearing? Will the axles be strong enough?
is nj a 3.0 or 3.5?
i have a 3.0 and did a spring and torsion bar lift with ball joint flip. 2" body lift, remover the bumper corners and bashed the rear of the front guards for the scrub radius. then i had 35s on with minimal rubbing on landcrusier offset rims (stick out further than pajero rims).

did you have to massasge the rear of the front guards for the scrub radius?
fervit: if you are determined to have 35s, go and borrow some, fit them up then see where they rub. then decide what you need to do to get them to fit (assuming they dont fit). rear axle strength could be an issue tho. frank (bitsamissin) broke at least one and ive heard of them breaking on others.

33's are so well suited to the paj, 35's are just more effort than they are worth.

33's are so well suited to the paj, 35's are just more effort than they are worth.
Yep I broke 4 rear axles (2 left/2 right).
2 with 33"s and rear locker, 1 with the 34" JT2's and the last one with the 35" ET's which caused the roll.
Also when Cheezy did all the work we found both rear axles were badly twisted so I replaced both of them with good 2nd hand units that was when it had the JT2's.
Funny never broke an IFS CV though only replaced one due to a broken boot but never managed to break one outright. Broke a few Hilux CV's until I put the treated ones in then no probs.
The 3.0 rear axles at 30.5mm diameter & 28 spline are a definite weekpoint especially in a 5sp manual (more shockloading than an auto).
The Yanks don't tend to break them as they mostly run auto's hell even the legendary Swartzy didn't with all the mad stuff he did with his red shorty.

Yes I had a ARB rear locker and a Detroit front (when it was IFS).
You would be going to bust an ARB locker as they are VERY strong.
I've had a good look at a 9.5" factory locker out of a 2.8TDI and you could tell that the locking mechanism was the weak point the rest of it was strong as though.
Hopefully the new ARB locker will be ready soon for this diff which will make it practically indestructable.

I changed out a rear shaft for the "abuse master" on the sierras trip few years back it didn't break but twisted and we noticed it was leaking oil out the seal so I pulled it for him you could see the splines were not straight so we put a good one it and it was all good. We also found that cryoing the CV's is a good call with 35's and a front locker you can really beat on them lloyd faced no broken CV's after the cryo.

I'm doing well adams right I got a new gen1 v6 SWB i'm working on its coming along hope be back out on the trail soon. Mr. Abuse Master still got the red beast I'm trying to get him to drive it over and drop it off so i can work the bugs out of it but he's out caving alot these days trying to get his name in the news again i guess.

I really luv Vietnam - great people and the shopping and food is awesome.
Almost did a US trip earlier this year (Carolina, Ohio and a few other states) but sent my offsider instead due to other work committments - I'll get over there one day though.
I gave Lloyd some Aussie slang/Aboriginal words to name some of his caves and tunnels a while ago - he is right into that stuff alright.

If your 3.0L turns 462s in the diffs, I think what you gain in clearance is lost by what you lose in driveability. My 3.0L with 462s with an auto was pushing it on 33s - 35s would have been too much methinks, without a regear...
