roofracks on swb Mk Patrol

Post by Evski »

Hey guys, just wondering if it was possible to put a roof basket on the fibreglass canapy on an Mk. How strong is the roof. I stood on it and it didnt seem to flex. I just want to put one of those cheap supercheap auto baskets to put bulky camping items in like chairs and tents. How much weight could the roof hold and what would be the best way to mount it. Cheers

i had some 150x100x3mm steel plates riveted to the roof with racks bolted to this. no idea how much weight was on them but its had a cpl of blokes on top a cpl of times... was the driest place at the time...

Hey ive got a MQ shorty hardtop and it came with a roof rack fitted.. it clamps onto the rails at the front and sits on 2 bits of 20x20 SHS bout 500mm long on the back and bolts through the fibreglass!

The biggest problem is my rails are rusted out on the drivers side, its pretty bad but doing repairs tomorrow. Thats why the rack has to go on the canopy. Im thinking of using an alloy rhino rack or smilar design to keep the weight down. Are they strong enough? Im really only going to be putting light items in there like a tent and maybe a few jerry cans.
