Best gearbox combo for 1UZFE into county?

Best gearbox combo for 1UZFE into county?
Hi Ive been thinking that this would be a better option then an isuzu 4bdt conversion because of fuel prices, engine weight, and cost of conversion. The plan would be to run it on lpg also.
What would be the easiest way to fit a 1UZFE to a defender Would prefer not to have to move the transfer case but could be an option.
Use the lt95 and use an adapter if there are any?
Just on the lt95 can it be made any easier to shift up and down quickly? Cause if not it would kinda take the fun out of it being so notchy not to mention dangerous, not being able to engine brake quickly on down shift.
Use the auto from the lexus?
Use another gearbox Like the R154 ?
Adapter plates http://www.thor-racing.co.uk/THOR_Racing-44.asp
Currently have the 3.5 roverand while it goes ok it sucks heaps of fuel and has no potential.
Keen to hear your thoughts.
Thanks

I'm not sure I see the logic here. What are your current fuel prices in Aussie?desertrat wrote:Hi Ive been thinking that this would be a better option then an isuzu 4bdt conversion because of fuel prices

Petrol is about 20 cents a litre cheaper than diesel, actually yesterday it was closer to 25c.KiwiBacon wrote:I'm not sure I see the logic here. Unless travelling long distances theres no point in a diesel anymore:(

So diesel is what, 15% dearer?DK wrote: Petrol is about 20 cents a litre cheaper than diesel, actually yesterday it was closer to 25c.

It's a really crappy diesel that doesn't use 15% less than a petrol. If I drove a rover V8 the same way I drive my 4BD1T I'd be getting around 5km/l.
With the 4BD1T I average 10km/l.
It's the short running and offroad where the difference in fuel economy is biggest. Cruising on the flat is where a petrol is best, but the difference still easily trumps the price difference.
We had a "correction" in our LPG pricing a while back. Basically the price jumped around 30% overnight, bringing the country inline with international prices and making LPG vehicles uneconomic.
When is that going to happen to your country?

In a vehicle that weighs in over 2t, you gotta be kidding ? if you ran a V8 disco/rangie on the same roads day to day you would use a lot more petrol than diesel. A small 4cl V a diesel 4wd then yes the petrol vehicle will come out better. On the highway i get 900k to 80 ltrs a V8 would be lucky to get 600k from the same 80ltrs.DK wrote:Petrol is about 20 cents a litre cheaper than diesel, actually yesterday it was closer to 25c.KiwiBacon wrote:I'm not sure I see the logic here. Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
using the factory auto would be the way to go so no headache's with the computer.
toymods, and lextreme forums should have all that kinda stuff nailed as to what's what with the engine conversions.
they toyota section here might have a little bit more info on what transfer's etc you'll need to run. trying to find something with the output shafts of the transfer on the correct angle's to suit the rover diff's may be fun.

I have a 1UZ in my Rangie.
I ran the LT77 until it cried enough.
I'm moved to a Patrol 5 speed and diffs.
My choice for a standard 1UZ would be a Cruiser 80 series auto trans with (right drop) transfer.
It all bolts together and only needs drive shafts modifying.
PM me for details if you want.

http://www.marks4wd.com/products/engine ... vauto.html
and Castlemaine Rod Shop do t400 adapter plates and dellow does t700 ones!!
or there is the C4 ford auto!! many options.
depending on what kind of 4wding will determine if you keep the original box!
i kept the original box and i comp my car and welded the gears together. so fixed it untill $$ can permit a new box setup!!

im using a bundy auto and transfercase in my s2. I changed in the input shaft, oil pump and bellhousing from the 1uz auto. I figured this to be the best and cheapest way to drop a 1uz into my shorty series 2. Not sure how itll go yet as other projects have taken priority, but it did all fit under the bonnet and behind the factory grill without chopping the firewall
