Silverstone MT-117 XTREME opinions and pricing?
Hi, would I be right in thinking these would be a little cheaper than Centipedes? Looking at a set of 35x11.50-15LT.
Anyone have any idea on prices of these or something similar in Simex?

96 GQ LWB, Rd28T, nothing exciting, but CLEAAAAAN. 2" Kings flexy's, long shocks, custom dump, 3" zorst, fuel screw meddled with.
Heard alot of good things about these tyres. but also that if you leave them in the sun, they flaten out at base and give a rough ride for the first however long till they regain shape.
Was qouted $280 fitted and balanced up here in beerwah about 3 weeks ago.
Hell of a lot cheaper then a pede

I ran them for a couple of comps and they are the same size (diameter) as a 35x10.5 Simex.
The tread is similar to a Centipede until you put them along side each other and then you see why the Silverstone bites so much more, why it is very well suited to some condition, very poor in other and shit onroad. In the right conditions NOTHING will keep up with it, but I think it is to speacilized to be a viable tyre. The Simex is a far better allround tyre.

93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)
I think they went a bit overboard with void myself - i.e looked at a 'pede and said - "let's give it more void - it must work better"
Void is only useful in some situations though, so it's not surprising their performance is more variable than the 'pedes.
Steve.

The early batches were like this, but they were recalled and fixed. new ones are correct size.dano80 wrote:From what I hear, the 35" is actually 33", and the same for the 33", its actually somewhere around about 31". I read this somewhere on this forum, but having dial-up, its not really an option to go searching for it
Cheers, Dano.
And, Look at the tread. It is obvious that it's an offroad tyre. if you want a daily driver buy something less agressive. these are awesome offroad.

Thanks for clearing that up....I thought I was going crazy!!

due to the fact my 33s were on a mates truck for 3 months i ran these on road for 10 000 ks and couldnt complain about them on road (considering what they are) but you had to drive accordingly they are rough to drive on at 30 psi
since they are worn down by 30% i have found them to be better off road than when they were new

They wear quickly on road, but is it still cheaper to buy these- a cheaper tyre more often over a more expensive tyre that lasts longer? Being on my first car and first set of tyres ive purchased for it i couldnt tell you what sort of mileage im getting from my current Dick Cepick II's.

i have had a set of these for six years and they still have 80 percent tread on them awsome in the mud not to bad on rocks bloody dangerous on wet roads. i left them out in the weather for 12 months and harden the rubber off road tops on road stressfull

They may look better than simex but as Gwagensteve already stated they didn't put alot of thought or testing into the design IMO. If you want a pure offroad tyre then yeah it'd make sense to pick these over pedes for the price. But if like me you plan on some road km's then pedes are the go. I just bought a set of simex pedes for $225 a tyre brand new but second hand of this very forum

These tyres are a rip off of a Simex Centipede, no doubt about that but Silverstone modified the 'pede to throw mud more easily thus the bigger voids. They are designed for the Malaysian jungle challenge where conditions are very sticky and sloppy.
I can climb just about anything in the dry and outdrive Patrols, Cruisers, Land Rovers etc that are dual locked on bigger tyres in the wet.
Purplebus and Hally can attest to this.
They do scramble and slip around on wet rock but I still go further than others
I run Staun beadlocks. I deflate to 3-5psi for big rocks.
I have a Zook so not really much comparison to heavier cars, but I find them OK on the road. They are offroad tyres so drive accordingly on bitumen.
I certainly would NOT swap my 33" Extremes for any other tyre........
except maybe 35" Extremes
Jas.

Can someone recommend somewhere in Brisbane/Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast for these? I rang Neta tyres today and they said they don't get the 31's in the extreme but they have 33's for $280 a corner. I asked about the sport then and in a 31 they wanted something like $230 a tyre I think he said. I think that's pretty damn expensive when people on here are talking of getting the 31 extreme under $200 a corner. What is a 31 pede worth?
