now as you may or may not know that pic that you so kindly shared with me is the one pic for all the TSL swampers....

but in REAL LIFE there is quite a difference in tread depth etc say between a 9/34 and a Q78....

so again i ask if anyone has a PHOTO of a 9/34 swamper it would be much appriceated.

ok..... yes, thanks AGAIN for sending me to a site that i have looked at over the years

seeing a angled pic on a website that has been photoshoped is not the same as seeing the exact tyre on a rim or on a truck......

like i said, even though they are the saem tread pattern and same model, there is quite a big differenc betwenn the 9/34 and Q78..... so thats why i asked.

i rang FOURBY's today, asking about swampers and simex, i was ready to drive up there, try them on and buy... they did not have any instock in the size im after... will only get them in for an order... so to fork out $1800-$2000 on tyres based on a drawing pic..... would rather see them for real, and next best a photo.....

Have a look in this thread. There are pics of Sierra's with both 9/34 & Q78 and the spare on the one with Q78's is a 9/34.

They're actually not a bad looking tyre, but i doubt i'll be forking out for new rubber anytime soon.

36 would kill my gearing too much, 34 would be nice.

I'm a fairly bit fan of tall/skinny over tall/fat tyres. A bit easier to hangle/drive on, dig in quicker, and dont have as many hassles with scrubbing etc.

What sort of prices have you been quoted uninformed??

Heavy cars are a bit much for the 9/34 IMHO - they were designed for dual rear wheel fitment, but the ground pressure of the 9" is unbeatable in lots of situations.

PS there's a 35 12.5 LTB coming too.

My Dad ran 9/34's on his 80 an the car just seemed to work them a bit too hard. I've got them on my Suzuki now and they absolutely rule on a car of that weight.

Keep an eye on Pirate - there's info about the 35" LTB.

I had them on my Sierra and they were awesome but as Steve said on a larger heavier vehicle they will be found to be lacking. You probably could run them on a Hilux but that would be about it I reckon

Whats the reason behind all that? Too skinny or too soft, too flexible?

the tyres are a very soft compound and the relatively tall and skinny nature means they could have a bit of sidewall wobble around corners etc

Cornering was one complaint the bloke had.. but cant remember if that was off road as well, I know he said it was sorta dangerous even gettin TO the tracks.

I don't think they were that bad Bogged - we ran them on an 80 on 7" rims and yeah, you had to take it easy, but they are swampers after all.

The issue is that when on rock and hard surfaces, the ground pressure is a bit too high - each lug has too much weight on it (remember they're designed for dual rear wheel fitment) and they can tear lugs and fall off ledges etc because the lugs fold up.

on slick clay/leaf litter type surfaces where you need high ground pressure to bite through the surface though, they rule.

I don't believe they are a softer compound than any other swamper (and I believe LTB's are softer than "regular" swampers, but there's much less rubber supporting the same weight as a wider tyre so they will wear quickly on a heavy car.

I've run 9X32's, 9X34's, Q78's and 36 12.5 SX's and I'd rate the 34's unbeatable as a winter tyre and the Q78's as a great summer tyre, and that's how Im setting my sierra up.

I summer the lower ground pressure of the wider tyre, along with the rounder shoulder, is an advantage. I winter it's a big disadvantage.
