GQ knocking noise in front?

Post by dklyne454 »

Went out last night, and have come home with a wierd knocking noise in the front. every time i hit a bump, it happens.

-Got underneath, and nothing i can see is cracked or loose.
-It's coming up through the body, not the steering.
-have shaken the shocks, steering linkages, drive shaft... can't get any movement out of any of them.
-engine mounts seem ok
-all bushes "appear" to be ok

At first i thought a bearing, but once i got back to the road, it only did it on bumps. i would have thought a bearing would be consistent though?

Any thought's.

feel's as though it is coming from the front drivers side.

If the passenger side is makin a noise and the driver side isnt...then it is probably too late for driver side mount hey....unless your truck has been whacked sumwhere on pass. side only.
Do a search on here ...plenty of info out there on body mounts.

Thanks heaps guys. just read the knockin noise thread in the bible. (Wouldn't have ever looked there, i only thought to go there when i need info on parts and mods...)
It sounds pretty much like what it's doing, obviously a common problem.

Will fix it up this week.
Only put the body lift in last week. wish i had have read this back then, anything else i should do while redoing the mounts?

Yes x3....worse when it's wet and you have passengers who always seem to ask for some strange reason...."Errr whats that knocking noise under my feet"?

I get this evertime i have a passenger. I stress for two seconds, then shrug it off (along with all of the other knocks and rattles).

I'll get my mate at nissan to price me up some body mount rubbers.

PS. Pretty sure my floor/firewall has a hairline crack on it too

I'm not going to bother repairing it. I fugure if i go to the trouble of welding it up, with all of the body flex the LWB has, its only going to send the stress somewhere else.
