GQ fuel tank into hilux

Post by turps »

Someone a while ago posted that thay had fitted a 95lt GQ fuel tank to a Hilux. Think it was mounted behind the axle between the chassi rail similar to where it is in the GQ.
Does anyone have pics of this, or know where I can find some info??

Yer can be done not very hard to do. The standard crossmember that the spare wheel is mounted to must be removed And two new ones put in, One in front and One behind the tank. the nissan fuel pick up and sender unit can be wired straight up to the factory fuel gauge. Pluming up a filler neck should be easy on a lux, It was a bit sucky on the 4Runner.

Thanks for that dave. Last night we roughly measured the tank and new the tyre thing was going to get the arse. Just wasnt sure about the two new crossmembers. These would only need to be about the same std as the tyre one wouldnt they.
For info this is going into a 2002 turbo Hilux single cab tray. He's setting it up for some long trips and said this would most likly be a cheap way to carry more fuel.
His plans where to set it up on a gravity thing into the main tank. But if the new 2nd hand tank comes with the pump and sender, I thought it would be good to use it as a transfer pump setup to the main tank, and add in a VDO gauge (or similar) under the dash, with a switch to activate the pump.
