CQ Offroad Challenge 2008

Post by tiler0172 »

G'day all, the CQ Offroad Challenge 2008 is on again. September 20 and 21st at Seonnee Park, 5km out of Rocky.

Team nominations are already full. We have 15 teams (45 cars)ready for a big weekend this year.

The committee has already started marking out stages with some extremely tough courses this year. The terain is vary diverse this year with very challenging mud sections, long rocky creek runs where teams can pick there own way through, water stages, some technical winching and good speed runs. 2 stages under lights on saturday night with a big crowd of 2000+ expected on the saturday and saturday night. Sunday is a good 2.5hr long GPS run with 18 points to find.

Sunday is free entry and spectator friendly!

See you all there!
Cheers the Committee

helped bunt out some tracks on the weekend, so wishing i was driving now. Is going to be hard on navi's and very hard on the cars if the drivers don't play smart, should be good though. DNF times should be tight, i drove a couple parts of some stages today in mums car and had alot of fun even though i was dodging trees the top teams should motor through that bit though. NOTE to drivers and navi's water proof your car!!! and maybe a snorkel for driver and navi if you take a wrong line you will need it.

considering that his mums car has 35s twin locks and a lift yeh it wont be that easy.
and as for water it will test your cars but it isnt that deep that it will drown them but you should be aware that if you pick the wrong line it could get ugly so make your navi get wet and walk it.

we will be posting a competitor list and no there isnt any brissy teams running as we have asked several competitors and they all missed out as it filled very quick.

now we do need some helpers to marshall and genaraly help out .
if you would like to do so please post up here and we will get back to you.

cheers

P.S teams that have entered please make shore you have all your compulsory gear for example compulsory 3rd party and window nets.
check your rules on www.cqoffroad.org.au or in your packs when they arrive as there are some minor rule changes from last year EG no recovery gear to be stowed in the cab at your feet

see you all there

Hey.

Any chance of getting an enterance list Jas?
With vehicles (currently/intended) for the team...
Just keen to see the people/cars that are entered...

Should be a great event... getting a real buzz around CQ. Some of the boys were even talking about it out in Emerald this week so I'm sure it's gonna be a great spectator turn-out...

I was using a borrowed FX 324 for OBC, but no need for it here any hand held should be good just as lons as you know how to use it. i spent 35min at denian learning how to put points in the gps when there was only 2hours to find all the points so lost a lot of time. Davo will let use all know at the comp what format the points will be in. next year will be running with a garmin unit as they are quicker when entering keystrokes there is no time delay as with magellan. and Toppo maps are worth there money in comps.

the whole format for the OBC has changed for next year and entries are limited to a smaller number so should be interesting. had a bit of drizzle before i left for work on thursday nothing serious though shouldn't affect the comp might help with dust a bit.

So Elf I hear anyone with a roof is gonna hate the rubbing on trees?? True?

I'm not too concerned as I only got a little bit of a windscreen to worry about... he he ... I'm not even worried about that...

Also water? Wow I haven't got any windows... I hope it's not over the top of my TJ doors (that's chest hight) ... someone indicated that it might be??

Sounds like this comp is gonna be HARD!!! I'm looking forward to it!!!

I hope old mate it the 100 Series knows what he's in for! HE he.

OK just to clear the air 1st the water is not going to be that deep we are not out to destroy your cars and as for trees if your rubbing them it is your own fault once again we are trying our best to make it hard but fun and not destructive .we're not saying it won't happen but we are trying to make it not happen. so drive to survive as this sport is hard on gear.

we tested some of the tracks and it can be done on 33s

any more queries post them up and I will do my best to answer them.

ok ive got two minor questions, first because my cruiser has a lttle wider wheel track then most 75's i have custom made fibreglass flares on it atm, but problem is they are expensive and i have a habit of running into things, if i just run some type of rubber home made flare that covers the wheel tread width will it past scrutineering? and just with window nets, what the best way to set them up for easy removal? i dont care if i have to screw into my door but would prefer not to

as stated in the rules the vehicle must be presented in a roadworthy condition.

gee use are taking the water serious, i was just trying to scare use all it ain't that bad. as for the cruiser with the flairs just go good old garden edging its cheap and when the comps finished you can pull it off and put it around your house then pull it up next comp, it looks shit but works and doesn't sag when it cakes up with mud like rubber.
