Rusty 88 gq ute

Post by Barker »

I have to replace the front section drivers side and passenger side (under the feet) of the floorpan on my 88 gq leaf sprung ute ( It is rusted thru). Also the A section is rusted thru at the join to the floorpan. Has anyone done similar repair and if so how did you approach this job.
Regards
Steve ;)

Cut, plate, weld, seal, paint. Tar under the body, and colour code the inside.

Thanks for all replys.
I do not know the history but all running gear along with second motor is good( has 400000 on clock )If I can get to the bottom of the rust repair I have thoughts of putting on a turbo and then gas as I understand the rebate for gas conversion is applicable also for diesels.
I would like to to remove spot welds from floorpan and replace but problem I have been told is this 88 model is unique to 88 89 GQ utes and I would need the floorpan from similar to match.I also like the idea of cutting and welding but not sure how is the best way to prepare the joins.
Thanks Steve
