Warn XD9000 vs 9.5XP

Post by Slunnie »

Does anybody know the differences.

So far all that I can work out, is that the 9.5XP is just a XD9000 with a 6hp motor on the side of it instead of the 4.6hp.

Does anybody know if there were other changes made to it???

6hp motor is much longer than the 4.6hp so you better check she gunna fit.

If I recall correctly about 30mm. Doesn't sound like much until a big fat chassis rail gets in your way.

EDIT: Just checked, 20mm longer.

Thanks for this RoldIT.

The other thing which I'm just waiting to hear back about, is apparently the 4.6hp motor end can be put onto the 6hp motor which reduces the length again. Rangieman is checking this out shortly with his new motors, and I'm hoping to hear that it brings it back to the same length as the 4.6hp

I think you'll find that a big negatory ...

If those pics are (close to) accurate, I think you're gunna be shit outta luck ... those end plates look near identical size to me. If anything, the XD9000 endplate looks to be thinker.

I've just done some calcs

the 6hp has an endplate on that dwg of 1mm (on my screen) and an overall length of 36mm to the fairlead bolt which represents 201.9mm

The 4.6 is 6mm for the endcap, 24mm for the winch motor and it represents 182.88mm to the fairlead bolt.

The difference calculates out to 16mm difference in the endcap with the 4.6hp being shorter.

But looking at the pics, I also wonder if the difference is due to the 6hp covering the motor body - so you may be very correct.

Hopefully the measurement will say the 6hp can be reduced in length.

I have both 4.5HP and 6HP Motors at the shop and when you compare the internals the 6HP internals are way longer than a 4.5 internals and so it's not just the bodies.

You could grind off some of the heat fins on the 6HP if you are talking bees dicks but otherwise just accept that the 6HP is a fair bit longer than the 4.5HP.

Thanks for this Hobzee, sort not what I was hoping to hear.

Is it a possibility then to flip the XD9000 and run it upside down so that the motor is on the opposite side like how the 10,000lb is setup? This thought comes from the bar mount having a cutout in it to suit the bigger winches - perhaps I can run the 6hp through that??? I'm not sure what the implications would be for the XD9000 gears, brake etc.

Yeah, you can run them upside down.

2 things to consider are drain holes in motor housing endplate will be the wrong way (no big deal, silicone them up and install alternate breather/drain holes) and cable output may no longer line up with the fairlead hole in the bullbar.
