G16 BUILD questions

Post by zookkid »

*Does the 1.3 seirra head fit on a 1.6 vitara for better performance or am i better off rebuilding a 1.6 vitara motor (eg. shaved head, pistons, cams etc..)
*Do 1300 extractors fit on a 8V 1.6 head?
*Do any external changes have to be made to the 1.6 (eg hoses, dizzy, anything) to fit in the sierra?
*Do the sierra inlet/exhaust manifolds bolt onto a vit head or do i need vit manifolds?
*Can i use the sierra carby?
thanks.

Yes both heads fit on both blocks and the manifolds interchange.

The external changes to the 1.6 required are only to the sump and oil pick up, nothing to the head/rest of the motor, and the RHS engine mount on the chassis has to be moved forward about 30mm.

The 1.3 head has smaller valves so is better for torque but both heads are basically the same so if you had a whole 1.6 I don't think I'd bother messing with it - just put it in compete and call it good.

Distributor interchanges between either head but the fuel pumps are different.

so i can use my 1.3 inlet, and use some 1.3 extractors.
so all i would need is a fuel pump for a 1.6?
can i use the sierra carby?
i am planning on buying a 1.6 motor to build:
what kind of performance pistons are out there for them? (i want high comp. pistons;eg flat top, dome??)

What motors have you priced up zookid?

Carbs tend to be abit moody on jolty rock hills, flood etc..
No matter what carbies..

Hence why i went efi..But i do realise u need it for a w'end swap!

If i was in your position, I would just bolt in a 1.6 carb with the adaptors etc

Then later on go the 16valve head with the efi when more time is organised..

I know that a 1.6 8-valve carby head will fit onto a 1.6 16v block, though it would then become an interference engine.

The sierra head will bolt on, but I dont know how different it is compared to a 8v vitara head, so am unsure if there would be any extra clearance issues i.e. between valves and pistons

which equates to bugger all in the real world. why would you put so much time and effort into shaving, valving and head swapping to build a bitsa engine? if you are going to go to that effort, go efi. i also needed to do a minimal downtime swap in my ute, so i did all the adapting, wiring and stuffing about in the shed and had the engine, gearbox and loom running on the floor before i put a spanner on the ute. this meant a 2 day swap, and that was into a 1lt chassis which was a bit more stuffing about

yer ill prob just leave the engine mostly standard.prob jus regrind the cam or summin not too extreme, just want a bit more get up and go than the old 1.3,the reason im stayin carby is that the cheapest g16b i can find is $1500 and ino if i can get a g16a cheap i will rebuild it for cheaper than that and have a brand new motor and the 16 valve heads like to crack  ,says my mate who works on heads all day long....

They'll only crack if you overheat them. I highly doubt you'll get anywhere near as much power from a worked 1.3 than a standard 1.6efi, unless you go turbo/supercharger, which would be more exy and complicated than just doing the 1.6efi swap.

g16a vitara motor

Post by nathandi7 »

I just did the g16a swap, well worth it heaps more power, even with the new 31's on. I brought my motor 2 weeks ago from checkered flag wreckers at smithfield complete with alternator, fuel pump, extractors and carby, exactly as you pull it out for $850. You need the vitara alternator because the belts are notched not V like the sierra.

Theres a bloke on ebay that sells conversion kits from new zealand for $200, well worth it, good instructions and everything you need.

SO, if u get a 1600 crank, rods and pistons...
u can then put all this in your 1300... and efectivly be a 1600?

and still have the corect engen number on the side? no need for engnering? this is what im thinking atm...

No the 1600 crank will not fit into the 1300 block.
