Ok so the batteries arnt charging in my 24v sd33 patrol, suspected the alternator so pulled out the brushes and had a look..
looked pretty worn ok easy replace them.. and its still not charging the batteries! Used to sit on 28v when going now it sits
on like 24 (charge in batteries) i get a increase of about 0.2v at half throttle and 0.4v on full throttle so something is working a
little!
Any ideas on what i should be pointing my finger at? alternator or regulator?
The Gregory's workshop manual says to test the alternator by putting a multimeter from postive to earth and jumper lead
across A and F.. but doesn't say what they are

MQ Alternator Troubleshooting
My alt went on 12volt, had new brushes in it so it was not them put new regulator in still no work, Took it to the auto lec and they put in new diode pack, mine was fried, put alt back in still no work, lights went out on the dash when i dissconnected the reg but if pluged in the lights were on.
Auto lec said there Sh1t and not really worth playing with he said that they are just to old and cheap and the copper windings break down, when it was rebuilt it test perfect on the bench but a little more load on it and no go i would only get about the same charge as your talking about, So he hooked me up with a new one with bigger output could not have been happier
Sorry bit long winded but do your self a favor and get a new one.
