60 series Speedo 'flickers'

Post by Sixty's Guy »

About 12 months ago my speedo cable was replaced by a local mechanic. They said it broke when they were replacing the clutch.... Anyway ever since the needle on the gauge flickers so I can't accurately judge the exact speed. It hs only just started to really give me the irrits. Anyone know what's wrong with it and how to fix it?

In the back of the dash there is a little square drive from the cable that makes the needle go. Might have some crud on it. Worth a look.

Might also be wroth checking it on the other end at the transfer. Something may be wedged on it.

I have the same problem with my Troopy, it was fine till the cable broke and when the new one was installed (by me) it now flutters between 40-90 kmh (worst at 60) then once it gets to 100kmh its normal. Not a genuine Toyota cable so that may be the issue.

Lube the cable so it isnt binding in the outer sheath, or in either of the end fittings.

Layto....

could also be the speedo cluster...

I had the same thing on my troopy. I think a mixture of worn out parts and crap all through it but I replaced the whole unit with a newer one and its sweet as now!

If you can get a cheap one second hand it could be an easy fix also.
