Can early 16v run a late 16v ecu ?

Post by Rotazuk »

Hi
Want to know if anyone can confirm if a early 16v 1.6 vitara motor can run a later ecu and loom . I know a few plugs are different but I suspect that the early ones have a vr sensor in the dizzy and the later ones have a hall sensor ( and thus not interchangeable ) .

One of the wiring diagrams for the vitara on suzuki info calls these a g16a and g16b engines , but not sure . Either way the engine is from a 91 vitara and it looks like the loom and ecu I have is from a 93 ish .

Guess I will have to go and get the dizzy to match .

I don't think so. I've got a computer and loom form a late G16B at home and it's very very different in loom and plug configuration to an early G16 EFI.

Yes a few plugs are differend . The purge VSV , airflow sensor , dissy and the isc valve .
I can swap over the isc , purge plugs to the 16a ( we shall call it ) . The airflow meter is the three wire for the 16b computer so thats no problems . Its just the dissy , the wiring makes it look like there are different sensors , Vr sensors are typically two wire and Hall sensors are 3 etc . Just need to know if it can be wired in , at this stage I am can't see how .

The ignition coil and noise filter etc is all out of a 16b so no problems there .

Guess the easiers is to find a cheep 16b dissy .

Cheers
