Stroker Engines

Hi all,

I'm searching for economical ways to 'stroke' the Rover and Leyland V8 engines using internal components from vehicles. For example, I read somewhere that the 3.5 could be stroked up using a P76 4.4 crank, Chrysler 265 rods and 4.0lt Ford 6-cylinder pistons for a capacity of 4.8ltrs.

Is there anyone out there who can comment on stroking the Rover 3.9?? If a P76 crank could be installed, what piston and Rod combination could be used to give a capacity around 5.0ltrs?? Obviously the potential to run a cross-bolted bottom end would be preferable when increasing capacity.

Can larger pistons be fitted to the P76 4.4 with standard cylinder liners to give a moderate increase in capacity - I heard somewhere that Holden 173 pistons fit?? What capacity and CR would these give??

Thought this might be an interesting area to explore where people may have some 'creative' ideas!!

The 4.4 is commonly taken out to 5 or 5.2 ltrs but the problem is getting a good block to start with, they werent made in huge numbers and all are over 30 odd years old. Again using a 4.4 crank into a rover block you will have to find a good or grindable 4.4 crank to start with, may be easier and not much more to get a proper stroker kit to take a 3.9 out to 4.8 or 3.5 to 4.3.

Check out www.aluminumv8.com or the March 1985 issue of Hot Rod for info on adding some cubes to the rover. A search of the web reveals a lot of mix and match with Buick /Olds parts.
