swb gq 3-4" lift and vibrations???
swb gq 3-4" lift and vibrations???
i fitted some 3" lwb springs to my swb patrol, so its about 3-5-4" lift all up, and i am getting bad tail shaft vibrations ?? i tried spacing the auto down 10 and 20mm, it got better but still there... what are my options ?
First of all check that nothing is loose under there and the uni joints in the tailshaft are in good condition.
Some shorties suffer from this quite badly and others have very little or even no vibration at all. As an example a mate has 2" springs in his & I had pack the gearbox by about 20-25mm. My shorty has 4" springs and my gearbox is only packed around 15mm.
If the Lwb springs are heavy duty I would suggest the lift is probably close to 4.5" of lift.
I am not 100% sure on this(happy to be corrected) but I think longer lower control arms will rotate the pinion angle back to where it should be and this will correct the drive line angles and thus stop vibrations.
another option although expensive is to fit a modified tailshaft which has a carden joint fitted to it. Last time I checked these were around $900.00 but that was a fair while ago.

hi there just thought i giv you my 2 cents but my mate had a sorty till he rolled it which had 4 inch lift in the rear and i have 3 inch lift in my shorty mine spaced out 10mm is perfect, me mate spaced his 20mm and used the longer trailing arms and still had a vibration! he put a double cardon joint but i wouldnt recommend as every few weeks he'd be changing uni's my thoughts are prolli get 3.5 inch lift swb springs for the back instead of using the lwb coz it will sit close to an inch higher to wot the springs are!
well thats my expirience! if it helps

Hey mate i have a shorty with 3 inch kings springs (250lb rated) and 2 inch body on 35's. I had no end of problems with mine. First ireplaced all the unis with genuine nissan stuff (as sometimes it can be that when you liftt the car when the unis move it makes them run on a wear mark from where the car used to sit at standard ride height. i then put packers in then i put 16mm longer arms in and an engine lift to tilt the transfer a bit, now this did help a little but it still vibrated, i measured all the uni angles and they were pretty close. In the end i got so sick of it that i went to sandy from AUS4WD and he made me a double carden rear tailshaft we then chopped the spring and shock mounts off the diff housing and rotated the diff so their was very little angle at all at the diff end and pu tthe double darden end closest to the gearbox (taking all the angle). Its been in their for 40 000 kms know iwth no vibrations and all i do is treat the unis in the double carden like any other uni. (ie grease them up every month or two and if ive been on a trip with lost of mud water or dust grease them up after every trip) and so far no problems and no vibrations. I know some people will say that you dont need a double carden shaft but mine did!!!!

your right Mudmav
Double cardinal joint is the way to go, dont stuff around with engine tilts and gearbox packers keep that stuff nice and high, do it properly the first time.
a pootrol
Double carden at the transfer end and rotate the diff so the uni at the diff end is straight. Might be a bit more work to set up initially but it will give the best results. Mines been done for over 100,000kms and a lot of that was with a seven inch lift with no problems.
