Triton or Sierra
Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum. I own a 1993 Triton, V6, gas, and am looking into building a mud rat. Not sure if I should keep the Triton and build that up or if I should keep it as a daily (or sell) and build a Sierra? Looks like it's a lot easier to get parts for the Sierra which is a plus. Also I've heard the Sierra has mad off road capabilities. Another option is a Vitara, but am unsure of the parts available. All must me done on a tight budget.
If your on a tight budget get the serria. They are more capable then a triton and alot lighter which is handy in the mud.
Keep the triton as a daily cos if you smash you daily driver off roa you cant get to work.
Much better to have a seperate play car if you can.

hey i got a 1993 triton as well, doing a sas atm also soa, and 35s, dual locked wif hilux t/c, for the money ur gonna spend on the triton, i would pick up a cheap suzi and build that up, as it already has solid front and rear diffs light wieght and great off road, but mind u the old triton isnt 2 bad offroad, just remember that the triton can only be lifted bout 2ich on front so thats gonna retrest your tryes size, i would go for a cheap zook run 2 ich springs and 31s simex, front and rear lockrites, thatl be boss offroad

If he wants a mud plugger, would a Patrol be too heavy?
Suzi wins on power to weight ratio, but what size tyres will he need to be competitive? Will he need to look at engine mods/swaps to run competitive tyres and still be competitive, or will larger tyres sap too much power from the stock engine?
Triton will take 33" tyres relatively easily, and the 3.0 V6 loves to rev - which is good, because the low rpm torque is rather suckful. Good rear LSD, front locker available, less resistance if you're not dragging the front pumpkin through the mud. I can see some advantages in going with the Triton.
Alternatively, if it's your only vehicle, that could be suckful too. So I can see the attraction in a small and light comp Sierra (with power-up mods) towed behind a Triton dd...
So, some questions to answer:
Is IFS a limitation for a mud rat? I'm not sure it is.
What size tyres will you need, and how easy/expensive is it to fit them to a Sierra and drive them fast enough?
Can you afford two cars?
Can you afford to NOT have two cars?

Thanks for all your comments guys. The Triton isn't my only vehicle. I have another car which I can use if I total the Triton. The Triton is still used 90% of the time though. I've heard the Sierra's are very underpowered. Just looking at cost of mods on both vehicles. Such as engine reco's etc if need be. The ute factor of the Triton is a plus.
I don't plan/see myself ever getting into hardcore 4x4'n like most people on the forum. Also, I'm pretty sure and have a bad feeling I won't get much if I go to sell her? Was also thinking of turbo charging it. Won't cost much as I'll do all the work myself.

Why not just lift the triton a couple of inchs then look in the 4sale section for a set of 32's or 33's ( what ever will fit ) then give it a run and see if will do what you want. It will only set you back about a $1000 ish if your patient looking for tyre so it wont be the end of the world if you decide you dont like it.
I have a Delica of all things that lifted and Im running 32' STT's with beadlocks and its amazing where it will go. It doesnt really like mud cos its to heavy but it gets me anywhere I need to go and most places I want to go.

Throw some lockers in your triton, turbo it, bigger tyres etc. As you said resale on anything! (you loose.) Sierras only really have light weight going for them, they roll way too easy, are underpowered stock, and are small (sometimes an advantage).
I would keep building the triton for what you want as an end product.
