first time rangie buyer? got no idea

Post by skez »

im looking at buying a rangie its an 88 vogue 3.9 auto, and have some questions because i have never really had anything to do with landrovers at all
is a VOGUE the same as the other models in that year range say for suspension/body lift kits and do they have factory diff locks etc

also ive heard that they have a centre diff lock???does this mean it is always in 4wd evan in normal driving or can u use 2wd? so if i locked the front diff with an auto locker (something like a lockright or detroit it would stuff the steering) my other 4x4 is a suzuki sierra with lockright lockers front and rear and its got locking hubs in the front like most 4x4s so i really got no idea about the whole rangie setup

any help appreciated and is a 88 vogue a good model or should i look for another model?
sorry bout all the questions
thanks

Hi,

a 88 Range Rover comes normally with a 3.5 and in the late 89 models the 3.9 was used.
Looks like the engine is swapped.

Vogue is the model with a nicer interior - the rest is the same like other 88 models.

Factory diff locks is not available.

Yes, a Range Rover is a full time 4x4 with centre diff lock and a front auto locker will be always in use.

88 is a good year because in 89 the weaker visco transfer case was introduced.

Greetings

Experience is something you don't get, until just after you need it.
