no plate on lpg system

Post by bikeboy37 »

G'day

Just bought an 1984 fj60 cruiser with dual fuel, i havnt had a great look yet but from what i can tell the lpg system looks very old and i can not find a compliance plate for the lpg installation in the engine bay. Does anyone know when the requirement for an lpg comliance plate came into play? and if it doesnt have one because it is so old can i still get a rwc? If i need to get it compliance can i get it done without having the whole system replaced excluding the lpg tank as i know it needs restamping?

Cheers Jason

pretty sure it was early 93', if it don't have one you need to get tank tested and stamped $100-$300 depending on where and who. unless its changed recently you can get rwc without compliance if install was prior to compliance date.

don't try n cheat stamping it yourself as you need to carry the test papers in car, and really with gas u wanna know its right.

Went through this myself.

ended up not needing one as the system was installed early 92, the compliance came in either later that year or early 93

It's a little bit of a grey area....
Compliance became a requirement in early 93. Gas systems fitted prior to this to not require a compliance plate, they only need to comply with th eregulations at the time of fitting, However...
The Astralian standards reads " If major work is carried out on the system then it must be made to comply with the current standards"
The grey area is wether or not tank removal/replacement is major work or not.
Aside from that, technically you need proof of fitting date if it is prior to 1993.
In short. If you have the tank tested or it is in date then you will be able to get a roadworthy on it and have it transfered. By the letter of the law you need proof of fitment or a compliance plate.
