Hi guys,
Anyone know what causes a heap of play in the steering in my LN106, has no p/s.
Brother has had a quick look and reckons the steering box is all good.
It makes it a bit hairy with 35's on it.
Cheers.

Busted drag link springs?

it will more than likely be in the drag link
first thing to do is take the pins out and tighten up the ends
if this dose not work you will need to replace the springs
it a common problem

Drive up next to the gutter and turn your tyre into it while someone checks out your steering joint. Spec is 3mm per joint, so if you see anything they all add up to give uber slop.

Was happening when springs were brand spankers.
What pins do I take out for the drag link. I am not a mechanic

No, but I will check them tomorrow and report back.
If its not that would replacing the bushes etc in the arms make much of a differance?

when you re-do your drag link, you do it up tight, back it off 1 and 1/3 of a turn, then pin thru again.
And make sure you put it back on the right way round, otherwise you get two different turning circles

You can tighten the steering up at the box. There ia a bolt on the side that you adjust which will reduce the slop. Make sure you don't tighten it too much because they can lock up sometimes.

And when you do it use plenty of molybdenum disulphide grease

CHECK THE BALLS ON THE STEERING ARM (BOOMERANG) AND PITMAN ARM, THEY CAN GET LOOSE & THEY ALSO WEAR OUT & GET BIG FLAT SPOTS ON THEM, If they are worn its best to change the whole arm rather than just the ball.

I beleive that in VIC same as QLD if the ball end is changed an engineers report is required. I sell Reco arms which have a new ball fitted and they are all supplied out of Melbourne and come with an engineers report. I would check it out before attempting to change the ball end yourself, just in case! if it fails your insurance could be wiped.

Stupid question, how would they know you have changed it?

I finally got round to putting in the new bushes in on the pitman arm end, the old bushes were real worn, the ball on the pitman arm looks a bit worn but couldn't get the arm off. no matter what I tried.
Haven't taken it for a drive yet but I reckon it will make a big differance.

Take the advice of that mechanic. The steering box is F'ed.
There a nut on the top, try to tighten it.

Its on the side, and I have adjusted it. Helped a bit.
