what to replace gq lwb carpet with

what if you remove everything and spray a body deadner on the floor?

i would assume if you had vinyl, if water did get under, it would be likely to stay there.

or you could always put carpet back in it and just go and buy a boat

Ok ive just been looking into this.. Tar based body deadeners i have been warned can go a bit stickey in the heat/ contact pressure and will be really hard to wash.. There is a product called stoneguard that looks the bit and will be really tough and easy to clean but wont give the sound deadening of the body deadener.. So atm im looking at putting some body deadener underneath the floor to help with the noise and painting the top with stoneguard so i can wash it out and not have that rank wet carpet smell!

Rhino lining would be the best but not worth the $$$$

Rhino liner will catch fire from mig spatter, it is soft enough to push your thumb nail into it. I know of a bloke who does poly urea coatings, its very similar to rhino but cures fully. This bloke does it for an industrial coating, silo's, rooves, inside tanks (chemical and water), he has also lined inside huge tipper bodies.

It is available in different colours aswell as black.

I don't know him personally, he is a relly of a bloke I work with. He is based in bris but travels the east side I know of.

I dont know if it was a different rhino lining that i saw but it was put on the floor of a resturant kitchen and it was tuff as hell. i struggled to cut it with a stanley knife. It was done by the rhino fella's from beaudesert.

wurth make a spray on sealer that needs to be applied with a special spray gun.

I use it on the underbodies of porsches, IT is the same as the factory stuff.

It is also used on many other european cars. its VERY sturdy, rocks and shit bounces off it.

It can go inside and outside and is waterproof.

when i get home i'll check out what its called on the tube.

i just cut the carpet in 3 seperate sections so i can pull it out easily when it comes time to get dirty. when its in its held by the scuff plates so it dosn't move around

ideally you need 2 full sets of carpets to do this properly

first you lay teh carpet out over the tunell and and then cut around the skirts of the tunell, rip it out and get the edged overlocked and reinstall.

the you get the second carpet and cut it so it overlaps the tunell a little bit and overlock it aswell, all around the edges so it overlaps the sil moulds aswell.

then you goto bunnings and get some clips like they use on ute backs and boat covers and attach them to the car and carpet,

clip clip... all gone

rangines have this sort of system, it works well. ( cause they always get stuck in the middle of water/bogholes )

i ripped mine out a few years ago and have never looked back. Don't bother lining floor with anything. I've never had a problem with heat or excessive noise, and no fumes in cab. Easy to clean too.

Go to clarke rubber and suss it out from there, Thats what i did and ive flooded mine heaps,

But now ive got these water removal pumps which work grouse!

it sucks the water from your floor and yeh no flooding,

Ive just bought this stuff called hippo liner its a DIY 2 part epoxy meant for ute trays 1 pack should do it but might need another one they are $130 per pack. Bit cheaper than the $1000 quoted to get rhino lining put through the 4by! Im ripping out the carpet and putting it on this weekend i will post up some before and after photos when im done.

Interior is still all out but here is the finish so far..

The clean up (last idiot that owned the car decided to carpet the tailgate and stick it on with 3L of contact adhesive)


Finish is better on the tailgate (below) because it started drying when i was doing the back (above)



The stuff was bought from Paint Mobile on Cheltenham Road in Dandenong $130 per pack (used 2 packs - 1.7 litre per pack) its called Hippo Liner

Stuff I learned:
1. Its 2 part only mix up half a pack at a time (0.85L) because it dries very quickly - i mean really really quickly only have about 10-15mins of working time.. less if its warm.

2. Do multiple thin coats for the best finish.

3. Got some on my hands acetone, turps etc doesnt get it off.. wear the gloves..

4. The roller they give you gives a good finish but breaks up use another roller or brush to apply the first coat.

5. Same as painting preparation is everything.. mask off anything you don't want painted and be all set up to go BEFORE you mix it.

Overall im pretty happy with it, If i did it again I could do a better job!
I will post some more pics when my interior is in and report out on how noisy it is without alot of the deadner i pulled out..

Its holding up well apart from a couple of defects that are my fault You really gotta do a couple of coats and make sure you get a even coating over everything..
Noise isn't as bad as i thought with all the carpet and underlay out. Its harder to hose out than id like had it half full of mud the other Sunday and hosed most of it out but still gets caught in all the corners and under the seats! But it doesn't go moldy and stink.. it looks the shiz too
