Patrol GQ/GU LSD Shims
Patrol GQ/GU LSD Shims
G'day Guys,
Thought I would drop you a line to let you know we have a new product in our lineup. Patrol LSD shims available now.
They are 0.7mm thick, thinner than an OEM shim, which gives you more options in repacking the shims with either an OEM shim and 4wdShop shim or two or three 4wdShop shims. We've had a few customers pack the shims fairly tight and this is going to give almost locked diff performance.
Go to LSD Shims
cheers
Dan

Re: .
It all depends on the end user mate. If you flog your patrol all of the time you can expect to have a reduced life span on the LSD in ANY case compared to if you drive it to look after it.cspgq wrote:when a lsd is shimd up how long will it stay good and tight?
With four shims (2 per side) your LSD is going to be in alot better working condition than it was before you re-shimmed it. Its a worthy mod to do. The Patrol LSDs deserve to be looked after. They are a strong unit.
cheers

Joel from PGS has had experience in setting up an LSD with these shims. If its a tourer we'd recommend 1 shim per side but if you are going hardcore we'd recommend going to 2 shims per side and this will pretty much lock up the rear diff on your average LSD.
Of course every situation is different and setting up diffs is something you don't want to get wrong.
When removing a centre you will need to reset things like preload, backlash and making sure you get a correct pattern between the pinion and ring gears so if you haven't got the skills or experience or tools then let a professional do it for you and explain what you want to get out of the LSD.
cheers

Dan/Bogged settings don't have to be altered as it is no different to doing an auto locker, as I have shimmed mine a couple of times.
Centre punch everything before disassembly and replace crownwheel in original position.
Less than half a day for the avereage homie and well worth it.
If you need a copy of an auto locker fitting instructions let me know.
Check with Joel, he can confirm this.

I thought that might be the case, I just wanted to err on the side of caution with a mod like this. If you dont install it exactly as it came out then you could be in for some issues. I've always checked and rechecked the settings on any diffs that I've pulled out, albeit most have been zook diffs!
cheers Dan

Not a prob. Dan.
It's good for people know how easy and cheap it is to improve an already great diff.
I did my diff in an arvo for less than $50 including oil.
If these shims were avail. at the time I would have used these as they work out cheaper than making my own which was a pain in the butt.

Shouldn't be a problem to get these made up but you will prob have to order a minimum qty or organise a group buy for it to be worth going through with.
