Gq Adjustable Drag link Fitting prodedure
Gq Adjustable Drag link Fitting prodedure
I had a search in bible and in the search jigger but came up with not much on fittment of these things
I just bought a superior engineering adjustable drag link for a 3" lifted patrol with 33's and im wondering just how to fit the drag link
I'm assuming that the tie rods and what not wont be in the right place and the steering stabilizer bracket is a bolt on jobbie.
First of all im assuming wheel dead straight mark on the stabilizer where it compresses to the take old draglink out.
Next spin the tie rods out till the fit to the right position stick the ball joint in then them up
Next bolt the stabilizer bracket to the stabilizer then compress till it lines up with the mark and bolt the draglink.
Any info or help would be much appreciated and please let me know if there is a thread i can view for this and/or if im on the right track or not
Cheers and beers fellas

I didnt even get that scientific about it. Just pulled the old one made the new one bout 12mm longer and threw it in. The 12mm i got from doing the adj. Panhards, that how much longer than std. they was. The just move the steering wheel back to normal, and get a wheel alignment. easy as.

sounds like your doin the tie rod not the draglink. The draglink is the one at the front that connects the steering arm to the passengers side swivel hub. The tie rod is the one behind the wheels, connecting the two swivel hubs togeather.
if your moved the wheel alignement too far then it might be best to get a tilt tray and get it taken to the wheel alignment shop and get them to fix it for ya.
If you fit the draglink with the wheels on the ground (ie not jacked up at all) then there should be almost no wheel alignment issues cause only the position of the steering arm has chnged when the wheels are pointing strait ahead.

I have replaced the draglink its the one at the front of the diff and connect from swivel hub on lh side and then to the steering box.
Could just be my eyes few cans dont help lol
What about the fact that i get more turn, turning right then i do turning left.
Im just going to go out and have a look at the stops and see if i rub or if i can wind them in as i have been goes through the search jigger thing and been reading as much info as i can will update after i see what i find

Just been out to have a look and there is a difference....
When full lok to the right at the back of the right hand front wheel there is about an inch gap from the side of tyre to the lower arm
Then when in the opposite lock there is about two / two and a half inch gap how do i rectify this problem??
it doesnt have the same lock going left as it does right turns a better lock to the right.

If you still have the old one maybe try pulling the new one off and adjusting it to 12mm longer than the original. Measure it by hooking a tape onto the outside of one of the pins of the rod end then measuring to the inside of the other, dodgy way of measing to the centres. Then simply adj. the newy to 12mm longer than the measuremnt from the original. Saves a bit of F***ing about. I did that for my rig and its also 3" lifted and its perfect (sub 5mm) from the steering stops. 50mm is way to much to have sloppn about in the steering. It might get ya to the wheel alignment shop but i wouldnt be doin it. you could always thgrow the old one on and get the wheel alignment place to do it for ya.
When i did it i left the wheels on the ground and move the steering arm to fit the new draglink. then when i test drove it i checked lock to lock and yeah, like i said, spot on.
I reckon it sounds like you've got it a bit to long.

The new draglink is virtually right where it starts i didnt thread it out at all maybe thats the problem.
Just to be sure with getting it right i can move the left wheel out to make it line-up with the draglinkthats when /if i wind the drag link out to the 12mm longer than standard.
with having it locked to the right / locked to the left the marks that are on the knuckles (i.e where the dirt isnt built up/where they normaly run to) should it still be going to those exact marks or will it differ even if i have it right?
my biggest concern is the wifey drives it as a school bus so i need to get it fixed asap anyone round my area by any chance???

Check ur steering stops on the swivel hubs are the same measurment on both sides (I think mine were 13mm from the outerface of the lock nut?),
Raise the front and put the axle on stands,
Remove the steering dampner,
Get in and turn the steering wheel so the tyres are facing straight ahead and mark the steering wheel to dash relationship,
Turn to lock 1 way and mark the steering wheel to dash relationship,
Turn the steering wheel the other way to lock counting how many turns till lock and mark again,
Turn the wheel so that your in the centre of how ever many turns you have (steering wheel may be out, this doesn't matter)
Lengthen the drag link untill you have even turns both ways from centre,
once all thats been achived then with the tyres straight ahead, remove and reajust steering wheel if needed,
Install steering dampner,
then go get a wheel alignment and they make it spot on for you.
Piece of cake

Worked out the easiest way to do it was to turn the steering all the way left and push the wheel full lock to the left fit it and then send for wheel alignment i was only a few mil out so i thought i done a half decent job.
Thanks heaps for all the advice maybe this should be a topic in the bible??
