Dude that belongs in a museum, cable operated 24 volt high mount with external brakes i would suggest it would suit a tow truck or similar maybe not even a recovery winch ?????????????

It looks like a old Thomas. I have a mate who had one similar, think he sold it ages ago but I will see if he has any photos to compare.

i was gonna say older style warn high mount before the 8274, but the thomas seems more appropriate

I'm actually thinking of an aircraft starter motor winch. These were about the only drum winches we had in the 1960's and early 1970's. Mostly 24V from DC3's and yes hand made.
Warn electric winches were only just coming on the market - the Land Rover hydraulic winches were almost impossible to acquire and after that there were the capstan winches that everyone was removing. Thomas winches from Brisbane weren't on the market yet and most of the other stuff was ex-army and too heavy for the Land Rover, although Garwood-Olding is a name that comes to mind.
One of the best winches was the Toyota PTO from the 30 Series or whatever it was called.
this sounds better

just found some info for ya
http://www.ih8mud.com/tech/oldwarn.php
That is it, there are no brand markings on it.
The cable set up that is on it I made up when I had it on my truck and have the handle set up I made for it probably not as good as the real deal but it worked - could disengage and free spool, had the brake hooked up to a bike hand brake (couldn't lock on though) and power went through a $40 solenoid

Makes an $8,500.00 Giggle pin look like a waste of money doesn't it?

That winch above is my mates......
It is off an old army unimog which had been garaged for the last 20 years. Apparently it had been modified to a 10,000lb high mount. Still 12v.
He brought it off ebay when ebay was new for $500.
Got it serviced prior to fitting it to be told it was pretty much brand new.
The bloke who sold it had decided to fit a 9,000lb low mount because it looked better.....
Can probably find some more info if needed.

Moving house and have just dragged this winch out from under the bench again. Thinking of unloading it on here or ebay along with a mile of other gear collected.
Does anyone run a winch like this??
