3" dump pipe
Gooday guys, i am considering buying a 3" dump pipe, would anybody who has 1 let me know if they gained any better fuel economy?, has the noise level increased ? Is it worth the money.During the week its mums car , i sometimes get a drive on weekends. Dont do much 4x4. But enjoy driving the beast. Thanks Gazza

Re: 3" dump pipe
No - but then you would be talking of a complete 3inch exhaust cause a 3inch dump pipe into a stock exhaust wont do shit...gazza 1 wrote:Gooday guys, i am considering buying a 3" dump pipe, would anybody who has 1 let me know if they gained any better fuel economy?,
its a bigger pipe, so yes, but then you can jam it up with mufflers.has the noise level increased ?
yesIs it worth the money
Re: 3" dump pipe
Agree with Bogged. I just had my 80 done at Ringwood Performance Exhaust, very happy with the outcome.bogged wrote:No - but then you would be talking of a complete 3inch exhaust cause a 3inch dump pipe into a stock exhaust wont do shit...gazza 1 wrote:Gooday guys, i am considering buying a 3" dump pipe, would anybody who has 1 let me know if they gained any better fuel economy?,

A 3"dump pipe followed by a section of 3"exhaust will be more beneficial then match this into your stock exhaust, however there are plenty of 'quiet' 3" systems around if noise is of concern and you want to go a full system.
Not really sure on fuel economy, seat of the pants mine feels like it could handle more fuel now as it tends to run out of puff at higher revs now, but this is also a by-product of the toyota turbo. You will probably find exhaust matched with a tune will see better fuel economy numbers accross the board, but we are then talking more expense than just a dump pipe for $300.
Cheers,
Dan.

What sort of vehicle are you talking about? If its GU td42t patrol, its well worth it in power gains to start with and the future as well. It wont make any more noise if that is only replaced.

yer i have got the 4.2 turbo diesel GU 2000 wagon, on diesel gas, with a 2 1/2" exhaust system, and 1 Turbonator (hiclone) .Quoted $300 supply and fit for the 3" dump pipe. I am always looking at improving performance and economy.
Thanks so far for your comments guys. Gazza

You wouldnt change a 2.5 for a 3inch if your trying ot save money, or economy... the $700-1000 you would spend, you would blow, cause not many would wanna give you much for a 2.5 system..gazza 1 wrote:yer i have got the 4.2 turbo diesel GU 2000 wagon, on diesel gas, with a 2 1/2" exhaust system, and 1 Turbonator (hiclone) .Quoted $300 supply and fit for the 3" dump pipe. If your getting it for $800 thats a pretty fair price IMHO. Bout the only way you would get it cheaper would be getting press bent.wrksux wrote:Ive been quoted 800+ for a 3" dump back for my GU 4.2 turbo diesel
anywhere in melb doing them cheaper than that, apprentice wages mean i cant spend that much on her
Remember the $600 system you see on ebay, you then have to install, factor in what you earn an hour, plus say 50% the shop would use in overheads and add that onto the price and see how it compares dollar for dollar wise.

but as said, you wont get much cheaper than $800... thats a pretty good price. some are gettin quoted $1300
Id be getting quotes on everything, the exhaust alone isnt going to give you massive power gains, it will need to be tuned too. No Point spending $800 on Exhaust + $800 separately on a tune when you might get the lot for less.bogged wrote:http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23722wrksux wrote:Ive been quoted 800+ for a 3" dump back for my GU 4.2 turbo diesel

Nobody commented on this bit???gazza 1 wrote:1 Turbonator (hiclone)
3" dump pipe AND exhaust will improve performance, but will make bugger all difference to economy (just like the hiclone). There is no way you could justify the cost on the grounds of improved economy (just like the hiclone).
