Heavy Duty Clutch Or Not??
Gday,
Due to a recent issue with the clutch in my 03 TD Hilux i'm looking at installing a new clutch.
I'm after a few opinions as to whether i should go for a heavy duty clutch or not?
Ive been told that they can put added pressure / strain on all the seals, joins etc and can be very heavy to depress - no good for the missus...
I dont tow much at all but do a bit of sand driving and touring.
Should i go with a heay duty clutch or stick to a regular clutch?
Cheers guys.

yet another internet myth, not all HD clutches are heavy, shuddery or hard to drive, There are so many materials and pressure rates as well as multiple plates etc you cant come on here and say there no good. If you get a reputable companies product with hydraulically operated the clutch (as opposed to cable) pressure increase would hardly be felt for a slightly higher rate.

go talk with your ususl mechanic get his/her opinion and ask at your local brake & clutch specialist eg abs shop, ad their opinion to

make your decision from this
if your local supplier is any good they will point you in the right direction for your need.

i have an 83 lux with a 2.4 diesel with a HD clutch, its great there is no slip offroad. although it is heavy to compress it can be expected when it is HD, there is higher density/stronger materials used. If im sitting at a set of ligths for a long time i will put it in neutrel or it can be abit straining.
i rate mine highly, i can be decending a hill climb in low range and apply full brakes almost and the clutch will not slip it keep s driving at a snails pace. depends on what you do with your truck.

ive got a marks4x4 heavy duty clutch in my gu done about 6000ks on it so far and it drives great, its not too heavy to press down with the pedal and its got heaps of grip for holding the car when off road. its also really good around town.
