Lockright issue - bad slap/lash

Post by Dee »

When driving around i'm getting bad slap every decel/acceleration change (changing gears etc).

I've checked uni's, t-case is sweet. It's definetly in the rear diff.

When turning rear drive shaft i can feel the ring/pinion backlash, its perfect. nice & tight. but i can keep turning the drive shaft after R&P backlash is taken up, about another 1/4 of a turn further, before i get pressure applied to the axles.

Has anyone had issues with their auto-lockers (lockright) loosening up/generating a slap in the diff? Or does anyone have any other ideas?

It wasn't there before my last wheeling trip, but It wasn't until i was leaving, when i unlocked the hubs & all drive was to rear wheels, that the slop was pronounced.

Yeah, they do that. mine has about 1/8th turn of the tail shaft.
When you did your install, did you shim the side gears to spec?
Mine has been like that for ages, too lazy to fix it these days.

Mine does exactly the same mate.

Thinking about moving it up front and mini-spooling the rear.
