engine conversion

Post by gqsafari »

Hi everyone, I am currently working on building myself an Mq patrol that is going to be pretty serious. I just need some help i have the choice between an rb 30 or a late model 3.8 holden engine, i would like to keep the standard 4 spd gearbox. What i would like to know is what engine is going to be the best suited to the car and the easiest to convert???

Your better off going with an engine thats already been done and has the kits already made up etc..

Have a look at what you can get from places like http://www.marks4wd.com

And from personal experience id be running the already coupled gear box aswell from that engine. ALWAYS THE GO...

theres some v6 conversion places around i think ones called pat garner v6 conversions. 3.8 eco tech are very cheap to buy (200-600) if you get one try to get a vp so theres no computer issues
nissan 98 gu 5" lift 37 creepys, 80%reduction gears, front locker and a gen3 and no money.

I had the VP V6 in the GQ at one stage before I sold it. It really went well. Plenty of get up and go compared to the original 4.2 six. Mine was a GQ SWB. It had a 5 litre EFI V8 in it and it spun a bearing. I needed to get the car back on the road quick with minumim $$$$$. the 5 litre was fitted using the Marks turbo 700 Auto to transfercase adapter. Since the V8 and V6 boxes are the same except the bellohousing pattern I swapped the output shaft out of the V8 auto into the V6 auto and it all bolted up to the nissan transfer. Custom mounts , and modfied sump (reverse the bowl to make rear sump) and it all went back together fine. the Marks efi wiring interface loom plugged into the V6 engine loom and all I did was change the memcal in the computer to a V6 type.
