Cooma diesel Vs Westend
Cooma diesel Vs Westend
I own a 2.8td GU with about 240,000 on the clock.
Berima Diesel cleaned and lapped the injectors at 130,00.
I bought the car 5 years ago with 98,000 on it and apart from new oil and filters every 5,000 nothing much else has been touched apart from a new safari tuff cluch and flywheel.
I have added 3inch exhaust and safari snorkle
It runs 33inch muddies and gets about 680-700 km from both tanks.
Is this good or bad??
Who has used either cooma or west end diesel or what were the out comes??? and $$$ spent??

got nuthing first hand to add, but when i was living in canberra i only heard great things about cooma diesel. also Denso diesel in wagga have a highly regarded reputation in the area
i remeber hearing on here about west end ripping every one off, eg put it in for a injector clean and get slapped with a new inj pump etc without a phone call, etc and wont release the car till all work is paid for,
all my info is 2nd hand so dont quote me on it but from all the stories ive head/read I'd go to cooma or wagga in a heart beat and i live 5 mins from west end

I had my injectors done at Cooma, they did what they call a Diesel tune up on their dyno which I sort of didnt need as I had done all the other stuff like valve clearances filters & such. They insisted they had to do it anyway.
I wanted to run it up on the dyno so I knew what sort of power I had plus I wanted to reduce the smoke (which wasnt that bad but noticeable). It cost me $1200 wich I thought was a bit exxy but the job was good & the old girl still hardly blows any smoke.
A mate of mine used Queanbeyan Diesel for his, no dyno & they dont do a "diesel tune up", they have a set charge for individual jobs like injectors, vlave clearances & such. Im not sure what he paid but he is happy with it.
I had the pump & injectors done on the old mans tractor there (R&R'd them myself & set the timing), its still going strong & turned it around in 24 hours, not bad for a grey import Kubota which is a little difficult to get parts for.
My pump needs doing so I will more than likely go to Queanbeyan, I just got a better feel about them from a tradesman point of veiw. Having said that Cooma is ok too.
Why not use Berrima again if you are in Robertson?
If you come down, can you bring me some pies form the pie shop?

i had my turbo install done by JC diesel, i personally would never use them again, after the install, i had a horrible knocking noise which turned out the be the air box hitting the fire wall, so they hammered the seam n the firewall, didnt look good at all, then the studs on the air box broke off, mainly due to being push so hard against the firewall, dropped it off filled out the paper work for warrenty, returned 8 hours later to find the "forgot" about it, they then wanted me to leave it with them for another day, believe me when i say i wasnt happy, i ended up fixing it myself in their workshop, their attitiude was craap.DavePatrol wrote:Try giving JC Diesels at Narellan a go 46461770.
I have used westend diesel, they have quoted the work, and i have paid what was quoted, once they even knocked off a couple of hundred because they quoted incorrectly, the one time they found other problems they rang first and asked if we wanted it fixed.
id highly recommend WEST END DIESEL.
I have used West End aswell and couldnt be happier. I too have a GU 2.8 and I had it chipped there. They were very profesional and the workshop you could eat off the floor. I am getting about 950kms for both tanks with 33s aswell.
I already had the exhaust and I got the chip installed there. I now have a healthy 86kw and 492 nm at the wheels.

nissan gu 2.8
Thanks for the responses guys
Ill just start putting the pennys away.
Its never had valves looked at and they are a bit tappy.
I have blocked off my EGR valve and it does make a difference.
Also just replaced my viscus fan clutch and what a difference to the power it makes .

The pies from the robo pie shop are made from all the wombats that are killed on the local roads plus the odd roo or two.
Where in canberra can you go off road??
I have inlaws in jerrabomberra.

we've used cooma diesel and queanbeyan diesel , i think it comes down to who works on it on the day , only takes one bad experience to turn you off ever going back , and the same with a good experience , its the technicians in the shop that you wanna get to know not just the shop name , as both the good and bad techs move around . in saying that we generaly go to cooma diesel over queanbeyan (due to a bad experience of parts being lost) but both are good at what they do
set your limits way beyond your ability

Nothing wrong with a bit of road kill, they make it taste nice
Jerra used to have some good tracks around the Mt there but now that it has joined Queanbehole they have closed them all off.
The Bindabellas is the next choice.
As Blade said, there is not a hell of a lot of "good " tracks left anymore. They have bulldosed them all & just left a few that are well made.
Having said that there are still enough out there to have a day out, a few sights to see & have a bit of fun.
For the life of me I cannot understand why they closed off some of the tracks they did as there were not creating any issues with erosion & such.
There were a couple that needed it because of the danger factor, they were accidents waiting to happen.
Anyway still worth a look.

Says a fair bit for Berrima Diesel when its just down the road and he is willing to drive more than hour away.mkpatrol wrote:

I have used Berrima Diesel a couple of times, never again. Got quoted between $750 and $2000 for a pump leak, cost me $3 to fix myself with the advice of the O/L board.
Also used JC diesel at Narrellan, never again.
Going to give Turbo Glide a run next for a dyno tune.

Berima Diesel was good with injectors but were not to keen to adjusting the electronic injector pump.
They did a great job on my dads old GQ 4.2
Plus i recon tuning a diesel on a dyno (cooma diesel) is better than taking it for a spin then back to the workshop adjust then back out again etc etc till they get it right (Berima Diesels way doing things).

You can't adjust an electronic injector pump .
I just got an intercooler fan and injectors done at Berrima and they road test as well as put it on their dyno for about 6 runs. 15% increase just from the tune up so Im very happy.

You need to turn off your computer and get out more

Stock standard GU 4.2 Turbo intercooled.
The bottom 2 runs before the tune. The others after. The top two are with the intercooler fan on and the ones just below with it off.
