Turned vehicle off and started the next day and it ran fine, drove into town turned off, when restarted ran rough again. Hoping its not a crook injector if it is how could i check thanks

Check for oil in the injector harness & at the engine ECU behind the battery first. It's quite common for this to display those symptoms.

thanks Scott , had a quick look at the harness and there appears to be oil in it and how much oil would there need to be to be a problem. What is the best / easiest way to remove oil. If i have to remove harness so be it thanks Andrew

Any trace of oil can affect the running of the engine.

The oil transfers along the injector harness into the engine harness & then eventually to the ECU.

The engine harness can usually be cleaned successfully but you'd be better off replacing the injector harness.
The oil cannot enter the ECU at all so it just needs the connection cleaned. Methylated spirits should do the job.

gday firstly thanks again Scott. There is a lot of oil in the ecu connection(pulled it off and oil dripped out) and also the connection under the tappet cover (also lot of oil) small amounts in other connections. tried the metho but wouldn't successfully remove all the oil especially in the female connections is there another way to remove the oil?
Thanks Andrew

gday thanks for all the replys. I got some co cleaner and it done a great job of removing the oil however it did not fix the problem. Ran for about 10-20 min without a problem till the car warmed up then symptoms came back ,could it be a crook injector ? if so how can I check without removing injectors, or could it be something else ? Thanks

You could check the hose from the turbo to the intercooler,
when these delamanate it effects the way they run.
The oil stuffs the rubber inside.

I am not a mechanic, but do have a TD5, most recent thing we had replaced on our 2003 TD5 in a Disco with 185,000kms was the air flow meter. I did not honestly notice an issue before but running much better now. May be this will help.
Cheers,
Stinger

Hello,
I had the same problem. One of the injectors was not firing. Was running on 4 cylinders. Turn off the car and start again and it would run fine for anywhere from 5 sec to 10 min, then start missing again. I checked for oil and found some on the plug under the head. There was a little oil so I cleaned if which did not make a difference. I took it to British OffRoad (I was on Fraser at the time) and they replaced the injector loom, which lives under the tappet cover in the oil. It cost about $300 including labor and I have not had a problem since.
