deisel turbo setup to petrol turbo setup
deisel turbo setup to petrol turbo setup
hi all questions i got a worked deisel that just wont scare me enough and ive done pretty all that is practical to it... si i wanna scavange my turbo intercooler setup from it and put it onto a petrol motor... will my manifolds both the turbo and inlet fit a petrol motor... my motor is 4.2 i want a 4.5 or 4.8 but if 4.2 petrol is straight dit ill settle for it.. any help would be greatly appreciated
4.2, 4.5 and 4.8L petty's all use the same exhaust housing bolt out pattern, so yes your TB42 exhaust manifold will fit any one of the petrol motors, the IC however, if its a front mount won't be a problem as you can just run new pipes from the outlet on the IC to the inlet on the EFI throttle body, if its top mount you many have to do some mods to get it to fit as the Throttle body on each of these engines sits too far to the passengers side, so it makes the IC offset.
I am planing on a Turbo 4.2L Straight Gas or 4.5L petty engine if i can get some info on the TB45 engine.

AA's for Quitters
4.2 and 4.5 is a straight bolt in. the 4.5 rods are skinnier than kate moss and dont really like boost asmuch as the 42. The 4.8 is different, things dont bolt up.
the turbo (although i dont know what it is) is probably too small. youll need (itll be shit without) a GT35R off a xr6 turbo for example or a To4r. you wont be disapointed with either. they fly.
go the efi manifold, even with straight gas it flows so much better than the carb manifold. the intercooler will be fine but give it a professional clean out first as it might have oil and shit through it from the diesel.
PGS will sort you out with what you need to know, great bloke, very helpful

turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
Re: deisel turbo setup to petrol turbo setup
so what have you done to it, and what figures are you getting on the diesel?
4.8 are different totally to the 4.2/4.5 also the intakes manifolds are different from 4.2 to 4.5
the twin turbo setup i had on my TB42 had 2 turbo's bigger than all my makes when they were runnin single on their TD42 and they were all upgraded diesels as well.

my deisel is totally done.... ran out of advance in the injector pump so had to throw a new camshaft in her, the turbo iss some custom lob by garret its got A/R .70 on the compressor side and A/R .68 on the turbine side i no its been hi flowed... its also uses a ball bearing center... currently ( was ) runnin 30psi .... motor used to belong to kevin Knott in his blue comp ute.... and my top mount water to air cooler is custom made the maniflod is welded into plennum chamber which houses the cooler ARE madae it cost over 6 grand they said... so ill need to sell it to help fund this project

exactly..Tomo_89 wrote:ls2 conversion?
wasting your time going further with what you have even on a TB42. LS would do it with much less strain, and have similar or more sniff.
where from and how much do these motors come from and cost? i not overly keen on a total transplant like that i have been thinkin about takin the boltons off my motor a sellin them to fund new project.... and puttin my deisel back to standerd wit normal boost and such.... was lots of work doin this motor and ii cant imagine my old man will be happy when i invite him round and he finds a 6ltr motor in a crate waitin for him..... i heard the LS2 is like 6grand for a bare motor without computer or anythin
