I have a Patrol MQ with a 24 volt system using two 12v batteries in series. Do I just hook the winch up to the batteries in series IE Red lead to one battery and black lead to the other? If this is the case can't 12 volt systems use 24 volt winches if they run 2 batteries?
Thanks in advance
Chris

how do you wire up a 24 volt winch ?

for the 24 volt winch connect the power lead to the red (+24v) and the negative to the battery thats connected to the chassis. as for running 24v of a 12v system that has dual batteries, no, its possible but very complicated. the problem arises that with a 24 volts system the negative of one of the batteries is connected to the positive of the other, in effect the negative is at 12v potential with respect to the chassis. in a 12v dual battery situation both negatives are connected to the chassis. in order to connect them in series you would need a double throw isolation switch that could disonnect one battery's negative off the chassis and connect it in series with the other. also any 12 volt loads connected to this battery would need to be disconnected also, otherwise they would fry.
