hey all, yeah i went out 4 wheelin the other day just on my property with lots of grass and my sierra just cut out on me when i stopped, thought the idle must have shook loose so adjusted it and away we went and then it happened again and again it just wont idle. i read what i could on here and am still unsure of the problem, i dont feel confident about pulling the carby apart. just serviced it and changed plugs looked like it may be leaking oil into pistons. checked all leads are connecting good, sometimes it works fine and idles but usually changes every time i turn it off.
so any ideas?
also how do i check the rings?
got over 200xxxkms and think its original motor so interested in the GTI conversion, read up on it heaps but wondering if any one has a proper good write up on how to do the conversion???

the G13BB motor is that from a jimny? lots of people say thats better because the power with low revs, i dont seem to be able to find many of those engines for very cheap.
yes i know conversions should be done properly and they do cost alot of money but my sierra has rego till august so dont want to scrap it and only have around $1000 to work with hopefully it will be enough for a write off GTI and other bits and pieces, its all i have to work with.
lexplay , that would be great if you could put some info up. there is heaps of lists of what needs to be done for the conversion but alot of them are unclear. would u be able to put up a quick list of things that need to be replaced and/or reused. im a bit confused on the fuel setup and one guy said the angle drive wouldnt fit an mk3.

no, they're not cheap, no they don't make the horsepower of the GTI, but they are super easy
I can't comment on low rev power compared to a GTi, ( on paper they should have more) but they don't have the punch of the baleno G16B.
I wasn't making a value judgement on the worth of the conversion, only saying that the GTi isn't the easiest conversion for a sierra - a G13BB is much easier.

my list would be no good as i made everything myself. the only things i bought was the dizzy angle drive kit and a multi fit accelerator cable. lol
i also had to mod the adaptor to run the gti distributer as i have a series 3 motor and the angle drive kit was only desighned to run the series 1 motor. hope that helps a little

thanks, yeah had a bit of a read on the G13BB motor couldnt find much on that conversion but heaps about comparing the G16BB with them. but if Gwagensteve says its easier i believe him, so anyone know of a G13BB motor round northern NSW??? and about what price range for one???
back to the GTi motor with an mk2/3 motor the can the mazda dizzy fit easy? or still need modification.
also which clutch and flywheel do you use? every other topic says the sierra clutch and flywheel but the main one posted in the bible says the GTi ones. thanks.

The G13BB makes 59KW and 109Nm from memory, so it's definitely less powerful than the GTi, but is also less peaky - the power curve is pretty similar to carby, it just runs a lot nicer and has more poke everywhere.
It's a physical bolt in. Requires a constant +ve, ground and ignition switched +ve connection, along with check engine and VSS so it's no different to wire than a GTi.
Jimny or Vitara extractors work. Jimny airbox fits. Hoses etc all line up. It's barely a conversion at all- it's only the EFI work, there's no mechanical work to speak of - even the sump is correct. That's where the main difference is against a Gti - no nasty water hoses running along the block, no right angle drive etc.
They're not all that cheap though, but they're a lot newer motor than a Gti and won't have had as hard a life.
Can't comment on clutch or flywheel I haven't done a manual G13BB swap or a Gti swap myself.

kewl kewl, well ill definitely look out for those engines basically see which one pops up with the best bargain relative to their common sale price, is their much of a difference between the G13A and G13BA? ive got the G13A and since it is my first time i might go for just a replace engine or the G13BA they seem to be more common, will do a search. cheers.

from the set of the pants, there's not really any difference.
The $$ and hassle in any EFI swap is in wiring/fuel system regardless of the cost of the motor fitted.
