80 Series Potential Purchase - Advice
Hi Giys,
Could l get an idea of what to look for mechanically in a 1991 TOYOTA LANDCRUISER FJ80R GXL?
It has:
7 inch King springs
Tough Dog adjustable panhard rods
Caster plates
35 simexes.
Just wondering if it needs engineering with a 7" lift?
Does not come with a RWC....
Thanks

It would want to be cheap.
I test drove a 7" setup before buying my stocker and it handled very dangerously in terms of both cornering and braking, and besides, is completely unneccessary.
I subsequently bought a stock '91 diesel, put 4" springs under it, and run 35" ET2s with no scrubbing.

Yes, a 7" would require engineering, but is way more than permissable - certianly under the NCOP, which is what Vic engineers are generally working to.
NCOP= 150mm total lift maximum, but not more than a 1/3 increase in wheel travel, so unless it's 1" lower and has bumpstop spacing and potentially limiting straps, along with a handling test, I'd say it's not going to even get a look in.
$10K would be too much anyway - It sounds like he's trying to get the big $$ for the lift, which is really just a pile of used parts if you can't RWC it with that gear installed.
IMHO an 80 with 7" of lift and 35's is dumb in any case. It's certainly not required for anything I've seen in victoria.

7" = stupid high.Gwagensteve wrote:IMHO an 80 with 7" of lift and 35's is dumb in any case. It's certainly not required for anything I've seen in victoria.
Offer him $6K stock. Then put 4" yourself and still have a RWC ar and $2000 in your pocket!!! I even have the 4" coils for sale...
