Installation of series 2 GU turbo kit to GQ 4.2d

Post by STOKKO_GQ »

Has anyone got pics of a GU turbo intercooled kit installed on a GQ 4.2D?
My kit is off an '05' model. any clues on what to block off if needed. Since going on an earlier engine. Any hints to help me out for an easier install would be great. Ive got a zd 30 airbox.

is it the intercooled model? I made a new cross over pipe from stainless and got rid of the nissan cooler.

I dont have pics of the install.

Yep i reckon it might be. :D

What are you going to use for the oil drain and feed, the early engines dont have the same feed system as the gu.

You will also need to organise a drain fitting in the sump.!!!

Other than that its a bolt up deal, you may have to make up some sort of bracketry to hold the intercooler as the GQ wont have the rear mount studs etc.

the intercooler will not fit the GQ. I know they fit GQ 2.8, but there is not enough room between the inlet manifold and bonnet to fit the nissan top mount with out a body lift on the TD42.

all the brackets fit up aside from 1 bolt on the rear of the turbo bottum mount bracket. There is the boss on the block to drill and tap but it is not required.

Drain fitting is easy, drill the sump and weld a fitting to the sump, you shouldbe able to buy or make a train hose fitting for the bottum of the turbo. You can use a non intercooled cross over pipe or fab one up, again not hard.

You may need a new oil feed hose, some 5/8 or 3/4 oil resistant hose and matching hydraulic tube off cuts or steel hose tails. A small peice of plate to cut the drain flange for the oil return, fittings to suit oil preasure hose, some silicon bends and exhaust tube to make cross over pipe.

If you tell me what model motor and where you are located I may be able to sort it all out for you. I have done this conversion already and it has been running for 5 years with out any issues.

ok i have an 89 model with 2in body lift, am going to mount the top mount on. My main concern is the oil lines, i should be able to work my way round the rest of it.

If your engine is standard height and you have a 2" body lift you should fit the cooler.

I use the oil feed from between the LHS engine mount uprights on the block.

Pm me an email and I will send pics of the hosing and oil return I did for AJ's kit.

Well, and if those grub screws fail, take the feed from the pressure sender like I did  ;)

By the way, I have to improve that oil return as it leaks. No matter how much I tighten the clamps it weeps oil. Maybe I ditch the 90deg pipe and run only hose from turbo to the drain fitting?

Try using normal oil resistant hose. the steel pipe will be fine. The hose I used is hydraulic hose and may be to stffl to compress, we seal it with hose clamp and flange sealant at work though.
