oil pressure

Post by jeanette blake »

can any body tell us if there is a thread in here all ready covering oil pressure in 4.2 deisel .
we have a 4.2 deisel maverick oil light did'nt go out for 10 sec or longer, had a 4wd shop insall a oil pressure gauge as the standard gauge was jumping around at idle .neither gauge will work while oil light is on ?

now oil light still not going out, oil pressure gauge jumping around,
(oil & filters changed) oil pressure at idle has droped from 45psi > 25psi but when driving at 60 kpm to 100 kpm oil pressure
by the gauge is 60 psi (filters used ryco z115 with anti drain back valve oil used gulf western 15w40 ci4/sl top dog xdo

this is normal, the oil light is because there is no pressure, the gauges don't read as there is no pressure

you may find you will have to use a heavier weight oil, try some penrite HPR diesel. As much as i don't like using heavier oil then is recomended, it probably your only option

if it were me, id be trying new filters, then trying a new pump.
running the heavier oil may half fix the problem but not properly if your getting eratic pressure theres an issue.

there was a thread a few months ago,
http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/ftopic154 ... light=td42

for a point of reference, my oil pressures at certain rpms with my TD42, 200odd thousand km, with penrite HPR diesel 20w60 in the first column, and shell rimula X 15w40 in the second, both after about 30 minutes driving, fresh oil, only about a week between the two readings.
RPM........ penrite.....shell
750.........18........15
1000.......30.........18
1200.......34.........22
1500.......40.........30
2000.......44.........38
2500.......47.........43
3000.......50 ........45
