1991 SURF - Turbo Diesel

Post by Meldge »

Hey Ya,

Dude at work cracked main seal (I think that what he said...)
He is chasing another engine and asked me if I knew anyone.
For starters I do not know the engine codes for that engine, do not have net access at work either. (Just started - bloody contractors.)

He is also looking at the bigger turbo diesel, no not 6.5l, maybe 3.0td will do.

What other engines, if any can drop in, using existing mounts and box.

If anyone knows its the Yota boys.

Cheers...

all the L series motors will fit. 1KZ (T) (E) will also fit. other engines will take more work and engine mount/gearbox/driveline mods.

I have a 1990 2L-TE with 70,000km for sale, which should be the same motor as in the surf, at the moment part of a package deal with the bundera (see for sale section) but I could be convinced to part the spare motor from the package. or buy the whole package and sell off the truck/parts :)

BUT if his only problem is a busted rear main seal it should only cost about $200 to have the gearbox dropped and a new seal fitted.

cheers

try this site www.toyotasurf.asn.au
the guys there are pretty helpful.
ive heard of people putting the hilux 2.8 diesel then bolt on the turbo from the 2.4
or just the 3ltr from a newer model surf.
