you'll get mixed reports on them.

personly, i've had nothing but trouble with them and would recommend a crane XR3000 and a 12v coil

Mine hasn't caused any trouble . Think it is 3 or 4 years old now.

Mine is about 18 months old with no issues.

A mate had one for 4 months or so before it died. Left his stranded in a different state. Not fun.

I've had the pertronix for 3 years with no problems
When i installed it i ran new wires right back to coil ,this way if it does shit itself i can plug the new points an condensor that i carry in the glovebox back into the original loom without to many hassles

I have one of these in my GQ. It idles much better and runs smoother. It didnt increase fuel economy - just made the engine run smoother.
I have done the same as redv8lux and ran new wires to the coil and carry all the old parts in the glove box. It only takes a few minutes to swap it back.
Fitment is really easy and requires only a few tools. It took me about an hour.
I have heard that they dont like spikes in voltage. Dont jump start your car and you should be fine.

What about crank triggers guys, im wonding what people use to make crank trigger setups, ie the sensor, where to mount and what to mount on, also amout of pulses compared to cylinder amounts?

Simplest pertronix unit to use is the 1762LS
You just remove the points an condensor an fit it where the points used to be ,making sure that earth wire inside dizzy is still connected from base plate to dizzy body
I just extended wires on module an ran directly to coil an ballast resister
No other mods have to be made

If you use the 1762 module you have to grind lip off dizzy shaft so that magnet ring can be slipped down over dizzy cam

The magnetic one (1762) is harder to fit and you don’t need to adjust the timing

And the 1762ls bolts in and you still need to adjust timing

If this is correct than witch one is better

The 1762LS just bolts in where the points used to be ,nothing else needs to be modified ,just remove points an condensor an bolt it in.
I increased the timing on my maverick to about 14 degree's an found it made a bit more of an improvement
I also fitted an extended rotor (its about 4mm longer than standard rotor)
You can get these from performanceignitions in melbourne.

any one got pic of the set up in there dizzy???

No magnetic ring needed!
The LS model senses the lobes of the dizzy cam
Its just replaces the points

Hmm looks interesting & cheap.
What sort of coil do you use with it ?
I have made my HEI dizzy into a crank trigger and run an MSD 6AL digital box to run the spark + high output coil, it also has programmable boost retard & rev limiter built in, not cheap though $1600.

I bought a Pertronix Ignitor (1762 I think) from Phil at Ontrack Automotive and installed on my GQ Patrol. Was an easy install and havent had any problems after a year. I did a few calcs on fuel economy and it was coming out about 0.5L / 100kms less than before. So I don't think I got any real improvements in fuel usage. Doesnt feel like theres any more power but it revs out a smoother and idles great, also stopped the over reving I used to get with the cold start idle. BUT...never having to install and gap points again...priceless. Best $200 I ever spent....except for maybe that h00ker in Vegas.
