A week ago my 83 Sierra started running rough. I thought it was the timing because the same thing happened a few months ago and I put new plugs, points and cap in and fixed the timing it it was great. I've adjusted the timing again but its still running a bit rough. What should I look at next?
It doesn't get off road too much but I'll check the filter. Is there anything else I should check while I'm at it?
One more question, are oil leaks commmon? I had all my seals replaced about 6 months ago but I've noticed a few leaks recently.
clean the carby
if the fuel tank has been bashed recently while you were off road you may of stirred up some of the crap sitting in the bottom of the tank.
this will keep blocking up the jets in your carby. i didn't fix all my carby issues untill i pulled my fuel tank out and gave it a complete clean, has been running fine ever since.

yeah i did the same as greg,
just use fuel and give it a good mix around and then repeat.
the petrol fumes keep your mind on the job while your doing it
apparently a length of chain in there while your doing the swirling really helps as well

courtancer, mine had a oil leak that seemed to spread oil all over the place but couldn't be pin pointed till I did the body lift, then it was easy to see , O ring behind distributor drive flange , 20 cents fixed the problem.
After cleaning your carby you still have problems it could be your progession drillings in your carb sometimes you have to acid bath the carb body when its in pieces of course
Check all the little black hoses on the inlet manifold. I'll bet it is the short one on the side just in front of the carby mount. If it is off it will make the car sound like it is missing.
