just before christmas time the engine in my feroza dropped a valve. i replaced it with a applause motor. before that i had been experiencing the common overheating dramas during 4wding and other times. i had already fitted a 16" thermo fan however was still experiencing overheating drama's due to crappy water flow. when i replaced the motor i fitted an electric water pump which only runs when the fan does and i have found keeps the motor dramatically cooler. have tested it on a 40 degree day, running a/c, loaded with tools, in low range and under high load and the temp gauge sat between 2/5ths and 1/2. so if you have fitted an electric thermo fan this may be a good next step. to fit it all i did was fit a sierra coolant overflow and relocate it to the other side of the engine bay. the mount for the pump sits where the coolant overflow normally does. it doesn't take much weight as it is mostly supported by the hoses.
you will have to excuse the crappy paint job on the mount. i was in a hurry.
have also just done a 2" body lift so i can fit the 31" tyres under. The bumpers don't match up (as is expected). i didn't bother spacing them as are in the process of making a steel winch bar for the front and a steel rear bar. i a couple of photos of the front bar ( about halfway done).
as i have a hilux 4x4 box i am also currently trying to make a bellhousing to fit the hd block. it will fit under now that the body lift is done. want to turbo the motor but the current box is not up to scratch. so hopefully will have a hilux one to go in soon!
yeaa an keep us posted on your bar your front on looks alot the same as my arb one lol.. i wouldn't mind having a look at some pics of ur rear one if u have started it?? cuz thats my next plan rear bar an run a swinging sparewheel holder so its taking that extra weight off the door. maybe an idea to incorporate that into your rear bar just an idea??
Nice work on the electric water pump. I looked into fitting one but just didn't have the room- I think the updated front Feroza must have more space between the radiator and engine pulleys? Does anyone know if that's the case?
hey. sorry it took me so long to reply again. the water pump i used is a davies craig 80L/min one and cost me about $160. it is a bit short on space (thats why i had to relocate the overflow bottle). The electric fan i used is quite slim and saved some space compared to the origional fan shroud. the pump outlet sits just below the mount for the p/steer pump. The pump replaces the lower metal line so you will need different hoses to the origionals. i cant remember what hoses i used but just measure the bends you need and the hose inside diameter and a spares shop should be able to supply them for you. the pump is basicly held by the hoses and just located from the braket so very little stress is placed onthe bracket itself. it just stops the pump from vibrating into things and making holes.
I havent got any pics of the rear bar just as of yet. all i have done on it is cut some of the pieces out for it. once ive done some assembly and it looks like a bar ill post some i want to get the front bar finished and installed first which i hope to have done by tuesday. Im hoping to fit a tyre swing arm to the rear bar so i can get the spare off the rear door but will work that out soon. im not sure on the exact weight of the front bar but i can lift it quite easily still and there isnt too much more to go on it. (so im guessing 30-35kgs)
Unfortunately with the adaptor it has to be cut and alloy welded precisely and i wouldnt be happy with the results doing it in my shed i have to send it to the engineering shop to do it. The are going to do it when they have spare time so its cheaper for me. i will post some pics and specs when i have some visual progress. hoping to have it fairly soon.
i have quite a few other mods planned for this year but will wait till i have something in progress so im not just talking crap with nothing happening. hope to have some more pics of the bar work and such up soon!
So will they be welding the adaptor plate to the gearbox side or will it be a bolt in item like wheel spacers?
either way i would be very interested in this. Is there any chance you could ask them to make another one once they have yours as a template?
If so what would cost be?
cant wait to see the rear bar as thats next on my list

GAH!!!!!!! have been called into work this week and had uni so havent had a chance to finish the bar off yet. its nearly done. have worked out all the mounts and have had the bar fitted. just working on the indicators and the hoop and then paint and its done!!!! i have got 2 of the boxes cut for the rear bar and will post some photos when i have the front on and are motivated enough to go through the uploading process. where did other people mount their bars to on the chassis so it is strong enough for a winch?
