Power Steering Questions
Ok now that i've got the 37's back on i am going to get the power steering box out of my old cruiser (std. FJ45 P/S) and wack it in the 40. The problem is that the P/S pump was stuffed in the rool over.
1) Can i use another pump with a better flow rate and just plumb it up to the std. box ?
2)Will the better flow rate make the steering more powerful and faster?
3)if so what sort of pump should i look for ? Later Cruiser, Commodore, etc.

you can upgrade your pump but you may need new fittings.
i used a chev spec saginaw pump, cost me $100
but you will need to make up some crazy brackets
and the pulleys are pressed on in such a way that you need a special tool to change them to match your offset.
matt pisani used a zd fairlane saginaw pump with hs 80 series box to turn 46in claws,
again, pump shouldnt cost more than $100
call ian king 9542 3103
otherwise, you can hi flow your original pump to bring the psi up to about 1300
ive got some tech here somewhere if your interested.
or just whack a cooler on with an original pump to improve its ability with aired down 37s

I have a toyota power steer pump if interested and a complete power steering off a hilux.

1 Cheapest (doing it yourself) or
2 Most expensive (professionaly fitted)
Thnx for any info? Just curious at the moment.
Cheapest to do it your self and the cost is how much you pay for it
About $300-$400 or wreckers will charge a bit.
